People are lacking reading comprehension and media literacy these days
The amount of people who take things at face value is beyond me nowadays. It's extremely irritating to see how people don't even try to see the deeper meaning of a piece of literature/media anymore. They just scream out the first thing they think of, act upon their own biases without considering or understanding the literature/media for what it is, and overall just don't look at the bigger picture.
On a serious note, this will have a bigger impact on our society than what people may think. Our society (social, specifically.) advanced due to people starting to look at the bigger picture, thinking outside of the box and putting themselves in each other's shoes. But nowadays people take everything too literally, assume, spread fake news etc. instead of taking a step back and analyzing things first. I'm so tired of people just degrading literature/media to the level of thirst material, or just straight up hating on it because they find it weird/can't understand it (take the psychological genre for example)
Willful ignorance and stupidity are two separate things. The schools create a generation that cannot read above a 2nd-grade level. It is tough to pour through content, looking for the "truth", if you cannot read or comprehend what you are reading. The thing is that there is always another option. Read this, or don't read this. Watch that, or don't ...... 4 reply

This is either something a pedophile or a really passionate book nerd would say. For your sake, I hope it's the latter. The amount of times I've seen this argument used for CP...

I relate to this and I think it's mostly the internet bc everything gets memed to death. If a certain scene didn't spoonfeed the context to the audience then it's called unfinished or disjointed, while it's mostly because that's the intention. Certain suspenseful moments and surprises don't make it poor storytelling. 1 reply
Yeah, I fully agree that reading in between the lines has really died over the years and it's going to a be a major issue if it does keep declining. It's exactly why I'm trying to work on my media literacy, because I know mine's kinda dogshit rn. reply
