reading bl is so exhausting for a number of reasons (at least for me) and yes it is not a representation of the community itself so it's honestly fucking disgusting when some would equate it to reality. it's also horrifying that individuals who are self-proclaimed homophobic would admit with their whole chest that they fetishize gay men and it makes me sick. plus the underlying misogynistic theme of a lot of bl titles
I'm lesbian and have a hard time consuming ANY media that is heteronormative. I've been reading yaoi for 14 years and I've always been able to separate fictional yaoi and reality.
