weirdly pronounced words.
Whoever came up with the pronunciation of acai, count your days. Also why is COLONEL PRONOUNCED KERNEL???? It was purely made to embarrass anyone who had to read it outloud.
Lingerie. Always pronounced it as Lin-ger-ee and NO ONE FUCKING CORRECTED ME. NO ONE. And then I had a full on fight with my bestie about it and I was like "Damn, wtf is wrong with this language...." 2 reply
I've gotten accustomed to most words so idek.
Also ik french so i know how to prouncence most of those loanwords (queue was a shock still).
But i didn't know colonel was genuinely pronounced so weirdly!!! I always thought i misheard it. reply
Ignore the englished latin/french words: LITERALLY ANYTHING FROM WALES. Like, wtf man.
Why even use the same letters as the rest of us and not draw elven glyphs already. I COULD DEAL WITH THAT MUCH BETTER.
Languages that use normal letters and just say: Fuck it, ignore half of those and pronounce the rest 25% differently, really can go deep-throa...... 1 reply
Marchioness??? Marquess??? Thought that shit was pronounced Mark-key-on-ess and Mark-key, but seems I had my marquee and Marquess mixed up for a couple years 1 reply
There's a word I love in French, it is composed of three vowels which have their own pronunciation. Nonetheless, somehow when combined they make another sound...which is actually the name of another vowel that is actually pronunced the same way lol.
The word is EAU, pronunced as [o], the letter O is pronunced as [o].
E -->[e] A -->[a] U --> [y]
