do you think people's obsession with Kpop and why that 'genre' of music became so popular is due to korean/asian fetishisation? like I know this is established about the extreme Kpop lovers called 'koreaboo' but im talking like the general more moderate fanbase who aren't considered fetishisers
because no offence bands like bts are good but they really aren't that good (in terms of music) and I get that boy/girl band appeal (like Beatles, 1D, little mix) may play a bit into it but surely it can be more attributed to that they are asian ('exotic' even) which mirrors the trend in asian for porn
one example of this is how lots of men like 'pure' youthful looking asian girls so thats why we see that popularity for porn but then there's that young girl band called blue jeans who I know are all underage and play into that innocent little girl role
idkkk its jus seeing a bunch of white people obsess over Koreans have always been a bit icky to me
I agree but it’s not only white people that fetishize asians.. I never get why y’all ONLY target whites when it’s black ppl, latinos, and even other asians.
anyway, there’s this whole genre of videos where it’s like a foreigner girl x korean guy it makes me cringe so bad because they’re whole personalities are legit just their race/et...... reply
Not only whites are obsess over koreans or, in general East asians. But i do agree most kpop fans (mostly Male kpop groups fans) especially armies are kind of fetishizers.. Literally they go out of their ways to date korean men 4 reply
I honestly don't think it became popular because of asian fetishization but it might have lead to more people to fetishize asians. I also do not think that people who like k-pop are the same as people who literally fetishize asians and feed into stereotypes. my friend is a kpop stan and that definitely shaped her type but she doesnt have this weird...... 2 reply
I’m not Korean (Indian if I may ) but I believe the popularity of Kpop started with of course the BOOM in music at that stage if I remember clearly. During this time Japan was practically reining in over seas with anime, so South Korea decided to do the same and boom kpop. Now the thing with Kpop and it’s coined saying of fetishizing Asians is ...... 1 reply
Yes and no.
I think fetishizing does play a part, but also the fact of boyband.
I think their talented and I feel bad for many k-pop music because a lot of them are horrible treated. Ya know.

kpop's popularity can be attributed to fetishization, but it's not the predominant factor at all. I believe it's more because of the idols' visuals, followed by their talents. Most K-pop fans I know became fans because of their looks. And their music is catchy as well. Literally, most of the music used for trends is from Kpop. I'm not a Kpop fan my...... reply
To start off, sorry that so many people are attacking you even though you phrased everything as a question… but I do think there is some fetishization played into but it only contributes a small amount. Many people who got into K-pop got into it when they were young and they weren’t fetishizing korean members. I just think K-pop is super appeal...... 5 reply
I'd say it's more about the parasocial relationships rather than the fetishisation
The idols are most likely trained to create "real-like" bonds with their fans to make sure they have a stable and growing audience
I'm not saying there aren't fetishizers out there though 1 reply
just bcs you think something is mediocre doesn't mean that your standards should be followed. so what if you think bts isn't that good. that's your opinion, not a fact. you're so self centered. just let them enjoy whatever they want. this is coming from south-east asian person. reply
i def agree, and especially after quarantine happened a lot of asian related things got popular (k-pop, anime, manga etc.) it’s not js white ppl tho, and ik ppl liked things of tht sort before quarantine but after it (2019 till now) it just blew up reply
