do you think people's obsession with Kpop and why that 'genre' of music became so popular is due to korean/asian fetishisation? like I know this is established about the extreme Kpop lovers called 'koreaboo' but im talking like the general more moderate fanbase who aren't considered fetishisers
because no offence bands like bts are good but they really aren't that good (in terms of music) and I get that boy/girl band appeal (like Beatles, 1D, little mix) may play a bit into it but surely it can be more attributed to that they are asian ('exotic' even) which mirrors the trend in asian for porn
one example of this is how lots of men like 'pure' youthful looking asian girls so thats why we see that popularity for porn but then there's that young girl band called blue jeans who I know are all underage and play into that innocent little girl role
idkkk its jus seeing a bunch of white people obsess over Koreans have always been a bit icky to me
Ur just yapping. BTS has an amazing discography and are amazing performers, do u think bands like the Beatles, queen, 1direction all became popular globally simply cuz they were hot? Bts didnt become popular only because of korean fetishizers??? I get that Asian fethishization happens and that it is a real struggle especially in kpop, but to say th...... 2 reply

Asians started being fetishized AFTER Asian media started being more mainstreamed. Remember the time when people shat on Asian men for being "sissy" and being reduced to constantly being the butt of the joke in most movies/tv series and being laughed at by the audience? We weren't considered attractive by the western audience by a mile, lol. Then t...... reply
1) The 'pure' and 'youthful' thing is much more popular WITHIN East Asia rather than internationally. That entire concept has existed before K-pop had hit the mainstream market. If anything, that concept seems to take a backseat whenever idols want to promote globally. So that is half correct.

K-pop is a genre like every genre( rock metal pop etc) k-pop is not your cup of tea but might be someone else cup of tea some people enjoy the music some people enjoy the overall boyband /girlband look and handsome faces.
some might fetishize it but it's not the majority, for example, didn't know about all that stuff that you mentioned (porn for ex...... 1 reply
People just like the music, it includes many genres like: hip hop, R&B, rock and sometimes even mixes couple of them. It’s more complex compared to your typical pop music. Besides that, most K-pop idols are also dancers, so the performances are really entertaining. Moreover, idols literally look like living dolls and dress in gorgeous designer pi...... reply
I feel like fetishization plays a part in this cause some people literally cannot get attached to a media without fetishizing the shit out of it......like idk BTS but some crazy bl obsessed exo fans call baekhyun a purebreed uke who loves sucking dick which like grosses me out very violently.......like I love baekhyun ok look at my username I love ...... 3 reply
for kpop as a whole im sure that plays a part to some extent, but for bts their popularity is so much greater than the entirety of kpop combined so yes they are THAT GOOD in terms of music, at least a lot of people think so reply
