Powerful Boss, Prim Miss Jones
Wrong manga! As to this one, he was a serendipitous idiot up until the very end. Then, his epiphany was so quick and undramatic that it was almost unnoticeable. Plot progression was definitely weird. Also, I read the Miss Jones manga elsewhere, and the ML was one of the most filthy characters imaginable. One wonders at the fantasies some of these authors have. Sick, to say the least.
Married by Arrangement
My. my... It's written by Lynne Graham and the ML is an a**hole. Amazing!
Baby Business
Basically, his father was the only remotely decent person in the family. The "beloved" grandfather set his grandsons at each other's throats since birth, ensuring that the family became a foul brood of back-stabbing psychopaths. He also set up a board of directors from a collection of arrogant, elitist scumbags. FL should have kept on running and not looked back.
The Society Groom
I thought that the ML was way too pushy, but both their families royally sucked! Her idiot father let his trashy second wife run over his children like a steamroller, drive his son out, and kick his daughter out. Then when he goes broke, he sucks up most of his daughter's earnings. What a stellar dad! As to the ML's mother, she was stealing and destroying her ADULT son's mail. Not only is it wrong and totally unethical, it's against the bleeding law, in both the US and England. As both main characters were adults when they were caught in flagrante delicto, they really should have made something of a stand at the time, instead of letting mom and stepmom lay down the law.
The Replacement Wife
The story really would have been great if she had, at the very end, laughed in his face and walked out of his life.
Buckhorn Brothers: Casey
The mother was scum. She DID have a disease (alcoholism is a disease), but the hatred and vindictiveness she showed her daughter went way beyond that. At the same time, the most unforgivable person in the story is her father. Not having the excuse of being an alcoholic himself, he enabled the mother's abuse of Emma, never stood up for her, didn't help her get something other than ragged clothes, kicked her out of the house when she said she was pregnant, and went to hit her when he thought she was going to give away the fact that her mother abused her. His abused and abandoned daughter comes to see him in the hospital and all he talks about is that she needs to see her mother. Both of her parents should have died in a ditch, unloved and unmourned. As to the ML, when he got on his high horse about how HE was the one that suffered when she ran away, I wanted to slap him hard enough to loosen his teeth. And why the hell was he still hanging around the girls who treated his supposed beloved like trash?
His Mistress By Blackmail
Well... He wasn't a rapist, but any man who uses a woman like that is trash.
Memo: Marry Me?
I enjoyed the story, but the sad fact is that people like her parents and ex-fiancé aren’t all that rare. There are plenty of people out there who are so supremely selfish that they would sacrifice and manipulate someone who is already a victim for their own pleasure or advancement. How different is it from con artists who typically target those least able to afford being cheated. As one author (I forget whom) put it, “These are the kind of people that hell was created for.” On a side note: Why are these high-powered executives always demanding nun-like professional conduct from their secretaries, but within minutes (it seems like) these ultra-professionals are straining at the bit to get into said secretary's pants. Could this be, gasp, the dreaded Double Standard?
The Marcolini Blackmail Marriage
His family treated her like s*^t, and he said that she misunderstood. His wife lost their baby, and he had to abandon her and throw himself into work to get over it. Then his mother lied to both of them separately, after driving the FL out. Now, when he comes to get her, he blackmails her and puts her in no win situations, and spends all his time trying to get her in bed. My conclusion: he should be euthanized.
