personally i dont think the duke is an asshole, he just didn’t like the fact that the marriage was being pushed onto him. he felt that she was being clingy and as if he was just another one of her possessions. he never bothered to get to know her because he thought he knew everything he had to know, he was young and didnt like the pressure of marriage being on him. it’s understandable he came to dislike her especially after all the misunderstandings .
