Soshite Mata Kiss wo Shite

Complete | GAMOKO Tsuyu | 2019 released

Hmmm... Interesting so far. I need more chapters to get a better feel, so it's a four for now, but could go either way. Only one chapter at the moment. It's got a concept I'd like to see more often in yaoi, overcoming homophobia and what not. But how it unfolds is tricky. We'll see. EDIT: Five stars for going much better than I thought it might! I need to read it again from the start, after these few chapters, but it's such a sweet, touching story. Sad, too, but in the right ways. I also like that it wasn't some random dude who wouldn't take a hint. I was worried that was the case, so I'm glad it ended up being more complicated between them. I really wish there were more stories like this. I love the whole overcoming homophobia thing, the fear and the bravery and the growth. This was a great read, and I love the twist with Matsuri. I hope he gets some love soon! Maybe in an extra chapter or something. He deserves his own manga.

Tsumaranai Ninomiya-san

Complete | HIRAMA Mitsunaga | 2013 released

Very cute so far. I'd like a little more clarification on some of their communication, but it might be a cultural thing. It's a tiny bit confusing in one or two parts, but I'm enjoying it. Very sweet and fluffy, a nice contrast to some of the other stuff I've been reading lately. I look forward to the continuation. EDIT: Awwwwwwww, I love this! I love the way the stories connect, and I love the whole ex-boyfriends and similar tastes thing. I really love how both of the ukes became good friends. It's just so cute all around. I want to read about these guys forever. D: I really enjoyed this. It was so sweet, and it made me cry. But in a good way. Plus, all of the characters are actually gay from the start! None of that bullshit "it's okay if it's you." I wish there were more like it out there, just focusing on the lives of gay men and not making every story about guys being into girls then randomly wanting one guy.

A Silent Country

Complete | Avogado 6 | 2019 released

Awwww! What a sweet story. Always a surprise when it comes to this author, haha. The language used to describe the deaf people was slightly problematic here and there, though I don't know if that's a cultural difference or general ignorance from the mangaka. In the states, it's offensive in deaf culture to refer to deaf people as disabled, for example. But either way, this was a sweet, heartwarming story that made me cry. I loved the main characters so much. And on the topic of the main pair, I can see why some people might view it as shounen ai or romantic, etc. Personally, regardless of their genders, they just seemed like really close, sibling-type friends to me. But I loved their dynamic and how much they supported each other. A very sweet, sad, and heartwarming story. <3

Shii-chan

Complete | avogado6 | 2000 released

I mean, I knew what it was about and I still read it, so that's on me. Definitely made me cry. Poor girl. I get that the ending could go either way, with her actually being a ghost and her just being a hallucination. Maybe it's a mix of the two, that she's lingering even though her friend can't actually see her. Mostly based on the line about how happy she must be in heaven to have someone on Earth who loves her so much. Yeah... I guess that makes sense, so I suppose it does have that supernatural element, unless it's more of a metaphor. Either way.

Green (Yuzuki Momoi)

Complete | Yuzuki momoi | 2019 released

Kind of a sweet little story about two people helping each other: a little girl with no friends, and a grown man who doesn't know how to take care of his own child. They both adjust together, and they become their own little pseudo-family by the end. It seems her own parents don't care much about her, which is implied in the way that she reacts to his poor parenting and how he runs off when he doesn't want to change the baby's diaper. But it has a nice, hopeful kind of ending. Simple story, but not bad.

Omega wa Pink no Yume wo Miru

Complete | Sakurai nanako | 2000 released

Wow, despite the creepy premise, this was honestly not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. I'm not satisfied at all with how they handled the fact that this was all due to his unsuccessful attempt to rape the guy's friend, but honestly, the fact that they acknowledged it as being wrong at all is a big step in yaoiland. I love that there was that friendship between the two omegas, and I wish more yaoi focused on friendship like that, especially omegaverse which seems very set on alienating the uke especially. Not a perfect story, maybe not even a good one, but I enjoyed it despite its flaws. I like how hard the alpha works to earn the omega's love, and even in the end, he doesn't insist they come together until the omega is ready, if he ever is. That's honestly pretty sweet for omegaverse.

Yagiza no Yuujin

Complete | otsuichi,miyokawa masaru | 2000 released

Wow. This was really beautiful and sad, and I loved it. I really love a focus on male/male friendship, too. It's so rare to see. Even with the lingering hints of feelings one of them had for the girl, that was never the focus, so it didn't take away from the power of the story. The cat stuff--NO. Fucking hell. I hated it so much. I wish I could erase that from my mind. I know it's only pretend, but it was so drawn out and awful, and one of my cats looks like that cat, so even worse. But other than that, this was a really good manga. I wish that scene would exit my brain, but I'm glad I read the story. I do wish that there'd been more emphasis on the healing of the survivors, especially someone who's been so brutally bullied and mistreated for so long, but at least he said that sweet thing at the end about how he feels hopeful being with the other boy. Very sad but a very good story.

Unmei no Hito to Deaeru Koisuru Apuri

Complete | Machi yayoi,Niko yuki | 2019 released

Damn it! Stop dragging it out! The tension is only fun for so long. I want to see them date now. I hope the next volume isn't just five more chapters of the same stuff, misunderstandings and cut off confessions, only for the kiss or whatever to happen in the last few pages. x_x But this is a very sweet story with very pretty art. I love it. It's washing a bad taste out of my mouth after reading something stupid and sad. It was just what I needed, but I hate that it isn't finished. I don't know when the second volume is even coming out. EDIT: Uuuuuugggghhhh, this is so much bullshit. I should have just waited until it was done releasing. It took a long time to get chapter seven, and I'm sure things won't be resolved in chapter eight. So it leaves it on this unpleasant feeling. The first volume was so sweet, and I was just really hoping for more of that. Then it throws in that bullshit misunderstanding type stuff. I mean, maybe not as bad as it usually is, but if they just communicated properly, it wouldn't be an issue. They could work through it together. I hate this crap. At least they both know they like each other, but it's annoying knowing it's gonna be this whole thing just for them to date.

I've read this up to chapter three, and it's pretty weird. But hey, BFF vibes!

Someone else's BL Manhwa

Complete | Bobari , 보바리 | 2000 released

Awwwwww! What a sweet comic! I like that it handled real life issues for lgbt people in Korea, and it basically portrayed a lot of different ways to be a guy who likes guys. I like that it also had an open, hopeful ending for some characters, where the happy ending isn't a relationship, but finding a way to make yourself ready to receive one when the time is right. Very wholesome overall, though I would have liked to see more with the parents and the whole coming out thing. But I like the way the characters all grew and changed. And I like the idea of them all being friends in the future. I think they will be. ^^
