Cinnamon Milk TEA's manga / #Toxic Relationship(8)

Free in Dreams

Ongoing | 2l | 2019 released

Reasons to read this Manhwa : ML facial expressions is more then enough. It was so worth waiting for chapters to pile up, leaving no time to speculate and I crazy love it ! Beside it's been awhile since I last felt excited about a reading . Psycho romance shit are the best ! The supernatural element isn't bothering, characters and theirs relationships do feel real to some extent, since this one is mostly a psychological story, that focuses on teenagers almost young adults coping with past childhood trauma, with what seems to be logical behavior and extreme fantasy. The characters development was a nice surprise, like how every thing turned out to be not exactly how it seemed, and how different side to them appeared to be... Except for ML maybe, he didn't seem like an obsessed psycho person at the beginning but as the story progress it made sense cuz ML did manifest extreme behaviors since young age. Ex: leaving his parents house cause of the attention, working to be an idol, ... He wanted to be loved. Unlike second FL, second ML, villains and extra characters that became more humanistic in both good and bad way.

Merger of Fortunes

Ongoing | Peggy moreland | 2022 released

It can't be considered a romance, right? This is psychological horror. Fuckin Trashy Disgusting ML constantly lie without regrate, he manipulate FL to the fullest and everything he was doing was fake.... FL accepting ML must have been her way of copping with the choc of everything. I won't accept another explanation.

Rebirth

Complete | Ceci , Jiyo | 2000 released

Unfortunately I have no previous impression of this and as I'm reading it now I feel nothing in particular so it's going to be hard to write something about this. On the bright side I finally got an answer for my confusion the author is Chinese which explains the angst and the nature of the relationship and the artist is Korean which explains webtoon art style. ________ MC want to avoid ML who abused him in the previous time line but end up falling right into him. And the excuse of using different terminology which lead to misunderstanding worked. as weird as it is, it did make sense that Shou chose to bear Gong child fo making that the official religion, it was too good of a deal. CH 14 was useless dialogue I think that this is the first Chinese BL I read that have everyone around Shou gaslighting him to give Gong a chance because he's pitifully but at least here they have no idea of the terrible things he did. There's lots of thoughts and introspection of doubt and affirmation of Gong bad behavior that keeps circling around leading to nowhere. No matter how many changes Gong goes through, his manipulative deceiving nature won't change. The pacing is weird, like a lot of things happen in a short spin off chapters but nothing is happening at the same time. The thing with the banquet hall was confusing!? Why did he get angry and then nothing?

Sissy

Ongoing | Mizuchiei | 2000 released

FUCKIN POWER DYNAMIC That what this novels is about Niang Niang Qiang/Sissy is a thrilling story that brings its readers through the minds of our two main characters, Li Chengxiu (MC) and Shao Qun (ML). Shao Qun, our typical CEO gong, is one of the worst ML I have ever seen, never failing to surprise me with his new, petty antics. The only thing he hasn't done is murder. Our MC, on the other hand, is a pitiful chef with a speech impairment. He is poor as dirt but got by comfortably in the city until the ML rolled along and scooped him up for a ride. Yes, Sissy has a stereotypical setup. Where it differs from other novels is its ability to develop the main characters' personalities with a deep dive into their minds and emotions. By the end of the novel, we see great changes in their psychological state, influenced by their experiences with love and hate. Our MC challenges the idea of what it means to be a strong person, one of the best personifications of a weak, nice and naive MC. He cries a lot for almost 30 years old, has no money to his name, and is always pushed around by others. Yet his mind is firm, and no matter what others do to him, he knows where to draw his bottom line to protect himself as well as his pride. The ML is not supposed to be lovable. I don't believe anyone thinks his actions are forgivable, including the MC himself. Such is the complexity of the human experience, filled with contradictions and great internal struggles. There are two ways you can interpret the ending: happy or horrific. Happy endings are usually classified by whether the main characters get together in the end. By this metric, you can argue that Sissy has a happy ending. I see it a bit differently: By the end of the novel, our main character finally has a sense of "family, " a lifelong commitment he can be secure with. Although he acknowledges that he was forced into these circumstances, he feels satisfied regardless. The horrific side is that this ending represents class conflict, in which such a huge power dynamic between a couple inevitably means that one person may not be in a position to consent to anything. Any decisions made by the weaker person is just an illusion of choice created by their more powerful partner. Li Chengxiu's decision to give in to Shao Qun's persistence to settle for a "comfortable" life draws parallels to our own capitalist reality, in which the rich have the final say. The poor can scream, shout, and struggle all they want, but in the end, they are just goods to be bartered around among the rich. Here, Shao Qun's gaslighting has succeeded--and he has bound Li Chengxiu with him for life. Li Chengxiu himself has completely given in to the idea that he has no personal autonomy and is satisfied with letting others decide his path. The novel goes over other complex issues such as internalized h*mophobia, discrimination, and sexual assault. I respect the author for having a lot of self-awareness of these issues and exploring them in-depth, especially with regard to the traumatic aftermath of the assault. (In contrast, most other BL novels pay no heed to this). Sissy is akin to a PSA of what a toxic boyfriend looks like, showcasing classic tactics such as intoxication, dubious consent, gaslighting, and mental abuse. Even more impressive is the author's ability to weave together different themes for a fun and cruel novel. Our main character reflects the intersection of sexuality, gender, disabilities, and socioeconomic class clashing together in a capitalist, classist hell. Once you really think about it, Sissy actually feels more like a modern day horror story about discrimination against vulnerable people thinly veiled as a danmei. The only nitpick I have is that the author chooses a rather fatalistic approach to these problems without offering solutions. But maybe that's the author's message--that as long as these class structures exist, there is no way out.

Yet You Love a Guy Like Him

Ongoing | 白月梦 | 2019 released

The third novel in the serie and the third story I got read. I was reluctant to read this one at first because of the summary and the negative comments. it didn't feel as angsty as the other two stories (#1 & #9) of the serie that I read before and it didn't start as such but luckily, I fall in love and hard for the magnificent manhua art style (♡‿♡ʃƪ). So I couldn't wait and read the novel (ʃƪ ♡‿♡) and I'm not sure what to feel. The angst was there at the middle part but it wasn't prevalent. Everything else was coherent especially the characters action, thoughts and personality. ——— When the proud, arrogant, and daring Jian Suiying Shou falls in love at first sight with Li Yu Gong –more like an over 25 year old ass men lusting over a teenager–, his younger brother Jian Suilin’s –who have some serious psychological issues leading him rape his own brother– classmate, he actively showed his affections –Both sexual and normal harassment despite being rejected more then once–. But his supposed “chasing” only caused him humiliation due to Li Yu’s hostile attitude, stirring up this noble young master’s animalistic and rather insane nature–He basically rape him while liking his bro and shaming to scam him–. Soon, their desires and emotions blended together, making it difficult for them to separate from one another. What should’ve been a competitive romantic chase between the two became a forbidden secret. And because of Jian Suilin’s ulterior motives –wanting to take everything from his bro–, things gradually out of control, and ultimately, the hidden dangers burst out. In the end, all of them will not be able to escape the judgement of fate… Nothing really happened they don't face the fuckin consequences of most of their fuckin actions. ——— The story happy and two years time spent, which makes the emotions the characters gos through seem real. Jian Suiyang got back stabbed in the one thing that he cherish "his job" by the two persons he would had never doubted and he couldn't forgive this particular betrayal. It made him realizes how alone he is and that he had no one to lean on, not even the family he worked for years to help... And yes I did feel sorry for him regardless of his atrocious violent personality... And for he's little bro too because therapy is only fo suicidal people in this universe. The Gong on the other hand I feel apathetic twords him, yes he did bad but he isn't the worst... Mostly because Shou did him bad and the situation just got reversed. Flabbergasting ! Everytime I reached the end of this novels, regardless of how many times Shou get forced by their surrounding to accept Gong back in their life. So fuckin disappointing, to think that I actually had hope that it was going to end on a blurry positive note, that they'll reunite in normal way. I feel so stupid (-_-;)・・・Yet getting back together in this way match the Shou of the story, he needed to be forced to give the gong a second chance. Ah shoot I love the ending it's so good!!! Can't wait to read the complete manhua.

Yonin no Nibiiro

Complete | Akabeko,akabeko | 2018 released

This author works always make me feel uncomfortable, and this one is no exceptions. And I'd rather not think too much about it. Don't know if I can say it was good with the character development and all. Too much information was going on and I couldn't tell who was who at some point especially for the 'dad' part, but the storyline was understandable at least.

The Perfect Sinner

Complete | Penny jordan,Takako hashimoto | 2019 released

I was so excited for freaking nothing, Max the cheater almost died and he become changed and everyone accepted him even though his wife take some time she gives him a chance at the end. Wished there's some angst or more twisted obsession. Since Max originally approched FL to take the internship from her and so he did by marrying her and making her a house wife. I didn't want to say that FL is stupid for staying with him, she's the archetype of nice naive girl with no much life experience looking for affection and she falls for a bad guy How the eff is Jake, David and Tiggy son? I completely forgotten he's existence
