The only positive thing about this is the art... It's stunning, I wish the author would use their skills to produce something with a more positive and less triggering storyline.
I'm not saying that sexual assault can't be included. But I feel seriously miss sold on what the story was... a gay man is attacked previously, having nightmares about it until he meets a guy who starts taking them away. I was like OK... So we have a positive message here. Then all hell hit the fan, and I thought, OK so their going to figure out a way to fight it together.... Then this great new guy vanishes off the face of the fucking earth, and now the lead is being assualted regularly and slowly becoming attached to his abuser? His only possible ally is the guys sister which at this point I want to trust BUT CAN'T! And I stopped reading on Chapter 21 when the author started trying to justify this awful abuse as a character flaw because the guy lost his Mum, and his big brother started undressing the sleeping protagonist who had just literally been raped in front of him not an hour before.... YEAH I'm OUT. I'm Done with this!
It is dangerous and making the idea of chronic abuse OK. You cannot change someone who is like that by understanding them and 'loving them just a bit more' and I'm scared that is where this is heading. Plus as soon as they gave hope, they rip it away, WHERE DID THE HERO GO???? Instead we have this backwards story about stockholme syndrome.
Please guys, while it's good to give your bad guys depths and a means to connect to them. DON'T MAKE THEM A ROMANTIC INTEREST after they organise a gang rape and refer to your lead as an object they own.
And don't make your lead stupid enough to think what is happening to for a SECOND TIME at the hands of the same person is OK. I can tell you right now, it won't go over well with Survivors.
