One of the weirdest things I've ever read, with gratuitous violence and sex, but it somehow works. Kept me wanting to read the next chapter until the conclusion. Art is very messy sometimes with lines and colors spilling all over the place, but it works with the action and blood and gore. I have to say, I enjoyed this one.
Kanako's Life as an Assassin
It's not particularly funny, and I don't care for the animal puns in every page, but it is still interesting with its developments. I like how relatable Kanako is, and the juxtaposition of her clumsiness and awkwardness with her insane ability to kill so well is funny in itself. It seems like there's been no more new chapters for a while now, seems like we will have to wait for the licensed version to catch up. The art is simplistic with the same bold color palette used throughout, so it's consistent, but not visually impressive.
Let’s Hide My Younger Brother First
A girl finds herself as the sister of the male lead in a BL game, and she decides to swap places with her brother to prevent him from triggering the bad endings. This shoujo webtoon isn't bad, and I liked seeing her act in unconventional ways. So far, there isn't much romance going on, which is a plus for me. I don't like like how the brother got married and already has a child though, that seemed really rushed and it didn't mesh well with the rest of the story. Seems like the author didn't know what to do with the minor side character of her brother, so they just made up an excuse to take him out of the big picture. The art is not that good, especially in regards to character line work, which is overly simplistic and rather lacking in details. But it's sufficient enough to get the main point across, and action scenes are clear from clutter and understandable.
To You Who Swallowed a Star
Very similar to "True Beauty," even the art style with the overemphasis on the eyes and the YouTuber main character. However, Jiu is a better protagonist than Jugyeong, and she shows growth as the chapters progress. She has clear goals and motivations, she is able to spot problematic issues in her relationships, and she responds more like a real person. However, since it's a shoujo webtoon, she still has her moments of dumb heroine-isms, like breaking all contact with her love interests over some minor plot issue, only to jump back into the relationship a few chapters later. The two male love interests are horrible, but I guess the younger one is less offensive. The art is clean and solid, and the panels are consistent in quality, as well as easy to read. Extremely bingeable, I could read it all in one sitting.
My Lady, Please Become My Heroine!
Ugh, the art for this is horrible. The supposedly beautiful young miss that the main character is going to take care of honestly looks psychotic with her serial killer grin. Not sure if intentional or accidental, with how bad the art detailing is, and the full color palette. The gist of this promo is that an overworked young woman dies during her train ride back home, and winds up being isekai'd into a world of a webnovel where she's a maid of a villainess. Been there, done that. Not creative, not compelling. Unless they change the artist for this if it gets serialized, it's really nothing worth reading.
A Chance to Cherish
For some reason, this is a duplicate entry under the name "Secret Sweetheart," but this entry has more chapters. It's an adaptation of the CDrama called "Well- Intended Love" but not a direct one. It mostly follows what happened in Season 1, with some changes that make it worse. I would recommend watching the drama over reading this, but be aware that the drama has lots of issues with plot and subject matter (abusive or manipulative relationships). However, it's so bad that you kinda want to keep watching, like a trainwreck ready to happen. Anyway, the webtoon doesn't have the same excitement, a lot of the side characters are demoted to even lesser roles, and the comedy is reduced as well. The art is alright, but not the greatest. Translation is a bit iffy, but you can get the general idea of what's going on. Past Chapter 100, the webtoon started to make no sense because the plot went out the window.
These Two Will Be Married In 100 Days
Short and sweet, but little substance. The art was very simplistic, with a limited color palette. The time-constrained story it tells means the artwork doesn't need to be fancy. The couple wasn't that cute to me, I've seen better 4-koma romantic comedies than this.
The Savior's Time
It started off promising, but the plot became more and more confusing with each chapter. I feel like there was a good story hidden under all of this, but it was too abstract and incoherent to grasp, unfortunately. The art was good, and the dark color palette conveyed the depressing atmosphere very well. In short, the characterization was weak, which made it hard to understand the motives of everyone involved. It went from something simple to understand, which is a brother trying to find out why his sister committed suicide, to something far more bigger, but it was not done well. By the end, I had no idea what the app achieved, other than mysteriously wrecking people's lives in a vague manner, and that the brother felt guilty for everything. Simply put, good ideas, bad execution.
Steel Under Silk
This is terribly written period BL. It is clichéd and has a very predictable plot. I'm fairly certain that the main character will end up falling for the guy he supposedly wants to kill, and they will live happily ever after. That, or he decides that revenge is sweeter, and either one of them or both of them end up dead. There's not many ways this story can develop, as this is a BL webtoon. There is no room to expand on the universe of the story as it is severely limited by the nature of its genre. The art is alright, but I actually like Painter of the Night's style the best out of all these historical setting BLs. Although I don't particularly care for that series' storyline either. It went downhill pretty fast, just like this one undoubtedly will.
