Samurai for the White Wolf

Ongoing | Hayate kuku | 2019 released
2022-07-21 00:54 marked

A young runaway feudal noble almost dies while being pursued by a rebellious faction, and is left for dead in a forest when an immortal wolf god finds him. He's saved and they start to fall for each other because the young lord resembles the wolf god's former lover from three hundred years ago, when he used to be human. I think the pacing is the story is too fast, but it's also not interesting enough to want to read the next chapter. I don't care for any of these characters, nor their backstory. They're just not compelling enough to make readers want to know them. There's no real plot and the art is not that great, compared to most manga out there.

Where the Wind Stays

Complete | Yusa | 2000 released

I really like Yusa-sensei's works. This new one looks very promising, with a lot of supernatural elements, where the male love interest is a cursed crown prince that can control evil spirits and the male lead is a rare individual who can see evil spirits. The art is fantastic, but the redness of everyone's lips bothers me a bit. Yusa-sensei is great at developing proper romantic storylines, so I'm eagerly waiting to see how this develops.

Setting Sun, Dazzled Eyes

Art is alright, not spectacular, but passable. The story involves a sick immortal sun warrior witch who cannot be cured by anyone except someone from a tribe that she had helped wipe out. Both of the leads are bland and uninteresting, with no personality nor motivations. It's just very plain so far, but it may get better.

The Iceblade Magician Rules Over The World

Oh my god, this manga is really not good. In terms of both the art and the story. The art is horrendous, all the people look like some poorly drawn cartoon characters, and they're neither cute nor beautiful to look at. The plot is some weird crossover of Harry Potter x Boku no Hero Academia, where the protagonist is OP but he needs to act like he sucks at magic to pose as an ordinary student at the magic academy. It's not even done in a fun or interesting way, since all the characters are super ugly and stupid and common tropes of things you expect to see in a typical shounen manga. And wow, it turns out that the only teacher in the school introduced so far is an arbitrary bad guy, who's shown to be super strong, but then gets trounced in 1 second flat by the male lead because he's so OP.

I Stack Experience Through Writing Books

Holy crap, this webtoon is one of the worst ones I've read so far. Not only is the art super bad, so is everything else. I don't understand how his power really works, besides that he gets some arbitrary points for recording his experiences and he can use them to exchange for knowledge or skills? The male lead has no personality, and he's a perfect character who can literally do everything perfectly since he got the skills from the book exchange. There is no conflict and each chapter is dedicated to showing off how supposedly good he is at everything. But my main problem here is how the artist is terribly bad at their job in trying to depict it. Like he's supposed to be a master calligrapher, but the so-called masterpiece calligraphy he writes are laughably bad. I was almost mentally crying with frustration from looking at the chicken scratch calligraphy that grown men were clamoring over and saying it will cost millions of won. Like seriously? And then he got the experience of cooking and oh lord, the webtoon went even more downhill from there. There's lots of drawings of panels where they're eating to show his food expertise, and the artist of this webtoon cannot draw appealing food worth a shit, since all the food looks like blobs of different colors, then you have the characters gushing over how delicious and appetizing the food is. I think I lost some brain cells...Not to mention, despite the so-called expertise of the main character, the author clearly did no research and just randomly spouts ridiculous stuff using their characters which make absolutely no sense, like how pork is easier to eat than beef and how sweet potatoes work with tteokbokki. I can't even. And the male lead is also a Michaelangelo, so he's a master painter too, and he paints awful drawings that once again, everyone praises him to death over. Please pass this webtoon, it is a travesty. Update: Completed at 150 chapters.

Isekai Apocalypse MYNOGHRA ~The conquest of the world starts with the civilization of ruin~

Ongoing | Kazuno fefu | 2019 released

It's an isekai story, but instead of a fantasy RPG/adventure type game reincarnation, it's more of a strategy kingdom-building simulation game that takes place in a fantasy setting. I think this concept is pretty interesting, since I love playing kingdom simulation games. It's cool that all the other characters in the game see the male lead as an evil shadowy blob, since his alignment is assigned to be evil. The art is so-so, the shading is great, but the character art is pretty ugly-looking. Waiting for more chapters.

I Became The Emperor's Daughter One Day

Ongoing | xue xiao tu,hamster ning ning | 2019 released

Nothing about this webtoon makes any sense, largely due to the horrible translation. I really don't know what is happening at all. There's a lot of cute chibi animals and magic flying around, but no real plot. The kingdom where the female lead lives is enemies with another kingdom where one of the male love interests lives, and they're scheming stuff about using magic and taking over the other kingdom. The art is pretty bad, everything looks like a cartoon, and most of the characters are drawn in a simplistic way that is not nice to look at.

Bride of the Snake

Ongoing | Seueon | 2000 released
2020-08-27 23:17 marked

It's confusing what is happening, since there's no establishment of who the characters are, or what their motives or purposes may be. It doesn't do a good job setting up the story, but the art is very nice. Hopefully, it gets better with time but there have been no recent updates.

The Moon and the Wolf

Complete | Noda Matsumoto | 2000 released

There's some good stories in there. They were all nice, not just focusing on pure smut, it tried to introduce complex elements of their various relationships with each other. Art was ok, not the best, but tolerable to read. The last story was the best in my opinion, it dealt with a boy who's been in love with his best friend for 15 years, and how they slowly accepted their new relationship as lovers.

This manga is funny, it attempts to subvert isekai tropes in a unique way. The female lead died from overwork, and reincarnated inside a coffin, and it turns out everyone in this new world can use magic, including her husband, the king. The king immediately figures out that she's been isekai'd to his world and threatens her, when suddenly, the ghost of the body she's in also appears and they fight. LOL. Hoping for more goodness soon, can't wait to see what they come up with next.
