INSECRET

Ugh, another trashy BL webtoon. I didn't like the work by the same author called Hide & Seek, and this one is quite possibly even worse than that one. I don't know why they even bothered to use a K-Pop setting because it has nothing to do with that industry at all. There's supposed to be 7 members in the band, but they're all so unimportant, that we never get to know their names and no one has any personality. Also, everyone basically looks the same. Why even bother having a 7-member band if you're not going to utilize those characters. This could have just been a K-Pop duo and not much would have changed in terms of plot. Dumb as hell. Avoid.

Very average webtoon. The premise is interesting, but the plot quickly falls flat. Art slowly gets better as artist gets more comfortable with panel layouts, but it's not the best art I've seen. The female lead is dense as a brick and the male lead is unappealing. They fast forward to romance levels very quickly and it's boring. I'm tired of webtoon authors not properly developing emotions for their characters, life is not a highway, you can't just jump to the "good part". People don't fall in love so easily in real life. Honestly, I'm still bothered by the concept that red threads mean death, because in my culture, red threads are auspicious and mean fated love. It's sort of melding Asian culture with Western culture (the threads of death from ancient Greece), and I don't like it, personally. Pick one thing or the other, don't do both.

A Fool and a Girl

Absolutely awful webtoon. The art is alright, not the best, but absolutely wasted on this trash. The story (or lack thereof) is that two childhood friends become friends with benefits by exploring each other's bodies every night. It's very gross and disgusting, not romantic at all. And it's not because I haven't read other stories with dark or disturbing themes, it is just done in a distasteful manner. The female lead acts like she is so pure but she's leading the clueless male lead on. The male lead seems to be mentally delayed... It really reminds me of this TV drama I watched a long time ago where a guy fell in love with a mentally challenged girl and they had kids together, and it was super controversial because the audience considered it to be sexual violation of a minor (since she had the mind of a child). This is very similar to what it is happening here. The male lead is very, very child-like and doesn't understand basic concepts, and I can't believe he can function in normal society, much less hold a job. And while the TV drama I mentioned had its issues, at least the romance was at least plausible. There's no romance here, it just skips basically to lust and sex, although they haven't actually had penetrative sex yet, but it's leading up to it. And the author tries to brush it all under the table, having the female lead say that the male is actually quite intelligent, despite the way he speaks. Uh no, you can't do that, because he's never proven himself to be clever or smart or even normal. It even makes a point every chapter to show how abnormal he is! Avoid like the plague!

I love the fashion aspect of the manga, I've learned a lot about this industry from reading it. However, it's not very well suited for shounen manga. It falls into the repetitive trap of the male lead trying to beat people with his designs over and over, and it becomes somewhat stale. He's a pretty boring protagonist, in my opinion. I'd rather have Chiyuki as the protagonist instead, her life seems far more interesting to me. She's also a very strong willed heroine, who doesn't need the male lead to save her all the time, which was refreshing to see.

The Library Needs A Witch

Pretty mediocre webtoon. The art is really average, and I detest the art for the female lead. Why are her eyelashes as long as her eyes are wide?? So gross! I don't like anything about her, from her looks, to her name, to her personality. It makes me wonder who the author is trying to make the readers root for. The prince is supposed to be a scheming pervert but he just seems like a stupid guy. The male love interest is as interesting as a piece of blank paper. There's no real story or plot or conflict yet. If the female lead is so powerful, why can't she fix the library by herself? Very poor writing, color me not impressed.

Hidden Surface Town

Ongoing | Chongchong Jiajia | 2000 released

Art is absolutely wonderful, the plot is still muddled, but vastly improved over its prequel. Hopefully, it doesn't go wildly off the rails this time. There's a romance between the female lead and the beast male character, but it's not really being developed and there are odd conflicts thrown their way that get resolved in the strangest manner possible sometimes.

The art for this webtoon is horrendous. The plot is really weird, basically, the female lead has a harem of gods that all randomly love her for no reason. There's too many characters, and they're not distinctive enough that I can tell who is who. It's been stuck for a while now, perhaps the author is not planning on continuing this past the first season. That's probably for the best, since it didn't really seem to be going anywhere.

Beware of the Villainess!

This webtoon shatters the path most villainess isekai usually go on. The female lead returns as someone who won't be good, but also won't be evil, and she has the weirdest facial expressions sometimes. She becomes friends with the original heroine and it's nice to see them get along. I'm not a fan of the supporting cast though, including her maid and her werewolf butler, they're not interesting at all. Basically, the heroine is the star of the show, and everyone else is some lame 2D character with no substance. Especially Nine, who the heroine keeps randomly gushing over every chapter to make the audience fangirl over him as well. He has no personality, and almost no inner drive besides "I must serve Master", and he's too passive to do anything noteworthy. The art style changes sometimes for comedic effect, which is great, but overall, the art is so-so. I don't find any of the characters beautiful or attractive, even if other characters praise their appearance. It just fails to convince me.

The Deadly Countdown

Ongoing | 夏倾时,触漫 | 2019 released

The art style suits the theme of this webtoon, but it's not particularly great. So far, the female lead who can see the death countdown has been unable to stop it completely. I think that's a good thing, to watch her struggle with her powers and her own helplessness. Her brother is underused so far, I'm not sure if he is evil or just conveniently there when needed.

Detective Duo

Ongoing | 大周互娱 | 2019 released

Art is crap, I'm really disappointed. Barely any detective work, it's fast forwarding to romance already, which is a bad sign. Not really happy with the progress in the first couple chapters that are already out. I don't buy that either of the leads are that intelligent. It's just poorly written.
