The art is truly beautiful, and the first half of the story really tugged at the heartstrings and made me cry. However, the male lead aged too fast to bring him to a romance-able age for the female lead, and now it's slowly getting boring. That's why I docked a star off. These types of webtoons always focus on ageing the protagonists too fast to get to the "juicy" romance, but it's a turnoff for me. I like a slow burn. Update: It just sucks now. Please kill it off quickly. Even the art quality dropped a lot from the beginning. Also the translations are not good.

Painter of the Night(Yahwacheop)

Ongoing | Byeonduck | 2019 released

I love, love, love the art style of this webtoon. It's very stylized, like a watercolor brush painting and that makes the art nerd in me jump for joy. Story is ok, but very slow-paced. I don't really feel much love for any of the characters but it's interesting enough to keep reading.

This the first webtoon I read with a medical focus, and I love it! As an aspiring medical professional, I can relate to the hero's struggles haha. Although to be honest, some of the so-called genius things he comes up with are actually basic stuff~ But it's okay, since I don't expect it to be 100% realistic in that area. The art is really good as well. My only complaint would be that the hero succeeds too much, he needs to mess up and deal with his mistakes soon, or it'll become boring. It's not possible for him to never mess up in the medical profession, no matter how genius or experienced he is. Update: He finally messed up, but it wasn't his fault, so he's not even punished for it, really. This is upsetting to read. I no longer rank this in my favorites, since it's clear the author just wants a Gary Stu who excels at everything , and everything is coming up roses for him, even when real life is not that easy. I hate stories with no conflict or character development. This should just have ended sooner than allowing it to turn into stale mush.

It was good in the beginning, but becomes so soap opera-y and cringey in the more recent chapters... Still reading it but honestly, not a fan anymore.

Goddess Creation System

Ongoing | DAZUI | 2017 released

This is on par with Feng Qi Cang Lan, although I would say the art in GCS is better. The two webtoons share a very strong female protagonist, who can accomplish anything they put their minds to. Unlike FQCL, GCS's lead hasn't struggled or fallen down yet. The story goes downhill after the Desert King arc though. The author seems to be trying to mix things up so her missions are different, but honestly, watching her make guys fall for her was the best part of the webtoon. The Venice arc was utterly garbage, and I thought the lead suddenly changed in personality. She's back to playing mind games with two guys in the Ghost arc but it's just not the same as before. Hopefully, the author finds their groove back to make this exciting and interesting again. Docking off a star due to the declining quality of recent chapters. Ugh, the cultivation arc is by far the worst arc yet, please go back to a simpler set-up.

Shen Yi Di Nu

Ongoing | Yang Shi Liu,Keai Bu Yu | 2000 released

Another strong female lead such as found in Feng Qi Cang Lan and Goddess Creation System, but this female lead is actually in love with a male lead, unlike the other two webtoons. This is a detriment to me, since I don't believe that strong females necessarily need a male to back them up, and this female lead is probably the strongest out of the three females from the three webtoons. She's smart, cunning, and well-versed in medical and martial arts. But she still always needs to be saved by her male lead... The story has a lot of inappropriate content, so may not be for everyone. Also, everyone talks A LOT. Literally, there's more speech bubbles than there is art. The art is great, it reminds me of watercolor paintings. Not something to read in one sitting.

It's a really bad romance manga, overly long and draggy. The manga could have been cut in half or 2/3 and it would be about the same, since not much happens. The female lead is super annoying and unlikeable, I really detested her. The male lead is very ugly and also unlikeable. I didn't see why I should even care what happens to them. Actually I wished they had more bad things happen to them so I would care a little more about their supposed forbidden relationship. It's supposed to be incest but it's really not, since the two of them are not blood related in any way so I don't consider that incest. Just because their parents got married doesn't prevent them from getting married, which is what happens in the end anyway, like it was a huge surprise... The art is horrific in the beginning but slowly improves with time, but it's not worth sticking to till the end.

Very realistic perspective on everyday life. The art is really good, especially the backgrounds. It shows how unpredictable life is, and that you can't always accomplish what you dream of, which is a downer, but it is a harsh truth. I can only say that I didn't care for any of the characters, and the female lead is unlikeable. I can't really sympathize with her, since she just wanted to cruise through life and depend on her boyfriend, without trying hard with her own willpower in the first place. When he dies, she goes through some changes, but in my opinion, it's too little, too late.

The beginning of the manga was quite good, especially when the male lead and his blackmailer become more and more crazy, doing more heinous things to break away from the teenage angst of boredom. I think on some levels, that's relatable to everyone who has gone through teenage years. But it quickly goes downhill when the male lead is separated from his friends and classmates when he moved to another town. The ending falls flat and leaves readers wanting something more. The first half rode a huge wave of crazy and then went splat on the floor, that's the feeling I had when I read this. It also tries too hard to be deep and it lost me sometimes in its fake philosophical tones. Art is pretty good and matches the theme of the manga.

Assassination Classroom

Complete | MATSUI Yuusei | 2012 released

Koro-sensei is a truly unique and iconic character. The supporting cast is not always used to its full potential. The only real distinctive members of the class are Nagisa and Karma. Also the love interest for Nagisa, but I forgot her name since she was mostly a background character. The ending is bittersweet. Sometimes I wish they spend more time with the whole classroom and their crazy antics rather on the killing aspect. It's overall a great manga, but it doesn't make it into my absolute favorites.
