I Became the Ugly Lady

Ongoing | 정하임,강세아 | 2020 released

well, i do kind of like the character who’s possessing sylvia. however, i’m kinda split in regards to everything else… but we’ll see where things’ll end up, i suppose! i’m not a huge fan of the art, though. it just feels a tad bit… extreme, perhaps? i’ don’t particularly dislike the story as a whole or anything... i’m just going with the flow for now. ^^

The Monster Duchess and Contract Princess

Ongoing | Rialan,Minjack | 2019 released

Absolutely ADORED this. I’ve actually thought about retreading it a couple of times already… Even before the story was marked complete, lol. I’ll most likely do so soon! Anyway, in m personal opinion, this manhwa was great. I loved seeing Leslie’s growth and how she became part of her new family. Super wholesome; despite all that other shit going on on the sidelines, lol. (P.S. I know this is a short review, but I don’t really know what else to say. It’s a lovely story. I have no regrets about purchasing all those chapters on Tapas, haha! Money well spent, I’ll say.)

Suddenly Became a Princess One Day

wooow... that was one beautiful story. first of all, i LOVED our two main characters—(and yes, i’m referring to daddy dearest)—whenever they spent time together. their relationship was borderlining on sheer PURITY, man. the care and loyalty they felt for each other by the time we’d reached the end of the story… it was so sweet, and even though their emotional journey might’ve been an agonizingly slow process at times, they eventually found solace in each other and grew into a true family. it was amazing to see. personality wise, i’d say they had originality and complexity and intelligence and elegance… and a whole bunch of other nice things, lol. athanasia and claude (and lucas as well, though, not gonna lie) must belong to a superior species of humanity or something, seriously. waaaack. (ugh, don’t mind meeee.) anyway!!! for whatever my opinion(s) might be worth, i also really enjoyed the pacing of this! it didn’t feel rushed or forced or ‘too slow’ or anything of the like at all to me. it had pretty excellent timing, i thought. an overall nice development and a subtle (yet progressive) layout. not a whole lot of the stereotypical ‘isekai drama’ happened in this manhwa—which was refreshing and something i personally appreciated! however, despite the lack of ‘events’, so to speak, i never lost interest. i’m actually quite happy about the fact that it was more focused on the emotional developments and the growing relationships between the characters (and similar aspects) instead of a more clear, progressive plot; like an obvious revenge trope or perhaps an all-consuming yearning for wealth or power. honestly, i’d like to say it was more lighthearted in that regard… but that’s definitely not the right word for it—especially since it became surprisingly heavy at times, and it felt consistently (and emotionally) intricate to me as well. i don’t know that expression makes sense to anyone else, but i can’t really find a more befitting word as of right now, sheesh. perhaps others would say that’s an overestimation, but i really did grow attached to these guys… and i for sure sobbed on at least one or more occasions, which is quite unlike my usual character when it comes to this genre. i don’t feel i would’ve done that unless the emotional buildup was there and felt authentic. since it was mostly centered around athanasia, claude and their slow-changing dynamic, the author was clearly able to focus on their father-daughter relationship a lot… and i think that shone through in the end. perhaps it shouldn’t have been all that surprising, after all. aaaand, despite the general lack of ‘events’, as i so nicely put it earlier, i still made sure to read every single update as soon as i saw one was available. to be fair, i suspect i might’ve ended up feeling quite bored with this if i hadn’t found the characters as interesting and likable as i did… but i obviously wasn’t, in any way, disappointed or frustrated with the final outcome! well, i suppose i could be biased… but that’s why you’re here reading this review, correct? (heh.) i might even come to reread this one day—simply because, once again, i loved this father-daughter duo and their slowly (but sweetly) progressing relationship. but hey, let’s not forget about my guy lucas!!! i’m actually quite fond of that one as well, lol. either way, i feel pretty content with the final conclusion we got, too! i think it was a smart way to create a (sort of) open ending. i’m sure plenty others would disagree with me, though… but who cares about themmm!!! although, despite of what i literally just said two seconds ago, i’ll still be looking forward to the upcoming side stories! i just hope they won’t leave us with more questions than answers. but you never know! doubt i’ll be unhappy about it, whatever it might be about. in any case: gorgeous, enthralling writing. otherworldly, ethereal-looking art. excellent, believable character development. perfect, balanced pacing… overall, i’ve absolutely ADORED this slow-paced, wholesome father-daughter relationship of theirs. genuinely—i even felt so touched that i actually SOBBED. i mean, what more can i say? 100% worth reading the whole thing, and i’d do it again. honestly, i probably will… and soon, too. #noregrets <3
