You're My Princess

Complete | Hiroto Kujirada | 2000 released

Itsumi is a high school student with an intimidating face and style that makes people think he is a violent delinquent. In reality, he is a kind and gentle person with a soft spot for cute things. Recently though, things have become strange for him, as he is constantly approached by the handsome, adored, perfect school president, Seima. Much to his shock, the latter refers to him as his “Cinderella” and then asks him out??? What is going on?! —- Itsumi is bae, the gap between his appearance and true nature is just so cute! I have such a soft spot for delinquent bottoms lol. Seima is an example of another favourite trope of mine: the perfect prince. I think he manages to reach a good balance between being princely and “perfect”, while also still feeling suitably human. Like, he’s not a flawless robot, seen for example when he is just as flustered as Itsumi when they are romantically or sexually intimate(which is pretty rare for “top” characters). And his interactions with Itsumi are pretty entertaining. My favourite was when he came to Itsumi’s aid during the confrontation with the student council/bullies uwu. The story felt a little short, but that’s probably just me having gotten attached and wanting more lol. The art is beautiful; love the style. The story itself was simple, but sweet. Nice overall, and something that I go back to every once in a while ^^

Elektel Delusion

Complete | nekota yonezou | 2009 released

Shunpei and Fumihiro are childhood best friends and neighbours. After Fumi comes out to Shunpei, the latter finds himself suddenly being much more conscious of their relationship. During a jealous/protective fit, Shunpei ends up offering himself to be Fumi’s lover. Things look perfect, as Fumi confesses his feelings for Shunpei, but things get complicated when he states that he refuses to be the bottom. Shunpei doesn’t want to either, so what now? —- I find myself coming back to this one decently often, and it’s decent over all. Still has problems though... The biggest one is Fumihiro’s insecurity in their relationship, with him becoming irrational and aggressive when it’s really not necessary(Like when he explodes at Mayu, Shunpei’s ex, when she hasn’t done anything wrong). It also kind of feels like Shunpei is the one who always has to apologise and fix things, when Fumi isn’t always innocent in their dumb fights. I get that he is insecure because his feelings have been unrequited for so long, but come onnnn(Shunpei literally trained himself to bottom for you). He has moments of being cute and loving(like when he made breakfast and then went to wake up Shunpei), and you do feel for him and his frustrations of having to live with his secret feelings for so long. So not the best, but forgivable IMO. Shunpei is a decent character too, but I also find myself frustrated at him and his moments of hypocris(becoming jealous when learning that Fumi watches porn, when Shunpei watches it too, like bruh), and he can be painfully dumb sometimes. But he doesn’t seem like a bad dude either, and much like Fumi, mostly just seems to be an immature high schooler. I hated everything that had to do with Hagami. Fucker refused to back off when he was told no. And I don’t understand why Fumi didn’t just turn him down completely, and ran off with him after causing a mess that Shunpei then had to fix. Communication people, communication. Aki was awful too. Creepy, fetishist fujoshi trash. Like, who gets mad about not being able to fantazise about their gay neighbour, because his partner is your brother and he doesn’t have the “role” that you think he should have?? And also refuses to let them be intimate with each other for the same reason?? Leave them ALONE, this isn’t about youuu. I get not wanting people to screw while you’re still in the house, but she literally stops them when they try to go to Fumi’s home instead???? This is a great example of why the word “fujoshi” has such terrible connotations. Something I liked about it was that they didn’t dive into anal immediately, and actually showed the long and difficult process of getting Shunpei’s body ready. This is pretty much the only example I’ve seen of this, with only one other example coming to mind(Neko x Neko), so the realism is appreciated. The childhood friends aspect also appealed to one of my favourite tropes, so that’s a huge plus lol.

Shishi Mo Kobamazu

Complete | kiriyu kiyoi | 2014 released

Satomi is a handsome prince-like high school student, known as being both kind, intelligent, and well-liked. Life is going well for him, until his day is interrupted by someone: an intimidating underclass man, well known to be a delinquent, Hongou Yuzuru. The latter asks to meet with him on the roof, and much to his surprise, Yuzuru asks to become his little brother/underling!? —- This hits basically all of my personal tastes: Delinquent bottom Princely top Unconventional/misleading appearances Childhood friends Domestic home life Pining Just seems to have everything I like -W-. Yuzuru is such a sweet-heart; it’s so cute that he’s so shy around his crush, when he’s usually so intimidating. I like Satomi-senpai too, with how attached he becomes to Yuzuru. Him running after Yuzuru, or when he got upset that they aren’t sleeping in the same bed yet were among my favourite moments. The use of the t slur is a bit troubling, and I would have liked to see a side story about the crossdresser and the other delinquent guy(I think they would make for an interesting story), but overall, I’ve gotten so attached to this story now, that I can’t be too update about it for long lol.

Never Understand

Complete | Bbong | 2013 released

Jaerim is a high schooler with one problem: he’s ugly. And much to his dismay, that means he is pretty much at the bottom of the social hierarchy at school. What frustrates him most though, is another student: the top heart-throb, Yuri. The latter refusing to let him exist in peace. —- I remember this sucking me in, to the point where I stayed up until 4:00 in the morning to read it lol. It was the first manwha that got me really invested. The premise is simple, but it was intriguing; it’s not often you see an “ugly” character leading a romance story. Especially one who stays ugly without going through an “ugly duckling” or “Cinderella” transformation. I know he’s meant to be unnattractive, but Jaerim is really cute imo. He’s so sweet, even though he’s also pretty dumb. I liked Yuri less than Jaerim, mostly because he’s the fairly typical “hunk-douche”, in the beginning anyway. When he got his shit together and actually got together with Jaerim, he was so cute too. I’m a sucker for pining and clinginess in romance lol. There a multiple couples in this, but out of 4 pairings, I only really liked 1(our main duo), with me actively disliking 2(I’m neutral about the last one). The one I liked the least was Aerak-sunbae and the blonde dude. I mean, everything is based on superficiality and lies. If Aerak came out and confessed the truth about who he was before, and blondie repented for what he did in the past, then that might have changed my mind, but as it stands, this couple just makes me feel icky, even if I know that they stay together and grow old together... oops, never mind, just remembered that blondie even cheated on his boyfriend, f this. I don’t have much of an opinion on the handsome black-haired guy, and the mischievous brother. I don’t like them, as their dynamic seems toxic, plus I just don’t like either party(black-haired dude is a manipulative shit, brother creates unnecessary drama). The childhood friends couple was actually really cute... aside from their start. I get that the jock felt insecure about his nerdy interest in his new environment, but still, why did he have to go out of his way to bully glasses boy? And essentially sexually assaulting him by forcefully kissing him? When jock finally got over himself, apologised, and confessed to glasses boy, their relationship was so nice and fluffy. Hence why I feel torn/neutral; beginning was toxic garbage, but the end was some real good shit. I my think an issue with this story is the lack of likeable characters. While most seem fairly realistic(somewhat) a lot of them just come off as being unlikeable in one way or another: manipulative, mean, selfish, overly insecure, etc. With too few redeeming moments or qualities. The worst example is definitely the “mean girl”. She’s just awful through and through; nothing positive to be said about her. And I think that’s a shame, as it seems like a wasted opportunity. I’m well aware that every story needs an “evil”, but I would have liked if there was more closure about her character, rather then just dooming her to do the same thing over and over again. I guess this is just my personal gripe with the whole: positive female characters are not allowed to exist in bl. Anyway, the art in this is gorgeous. The muted colours make give a rather unique appearance when compared to most other romance manwha, and it really works here. It also makes it look almost... otherworldly? Less cartoony, and it suits the themes that the story chooses to tackle.

Virgin Pink Scandal

Complete | TOUYA Tsuduru | 2000 released

(Skip chapter 4 - Sexual abuse big nope) - Chapter 1-3 - Virgin Pink Scandal Sakamoto Kazunari is an average construction worker working on a set. His life is peaceful, right until one of Japan’s most famous and handsome actors, Toyokawa Rei, corners him in a kabedon and asks him to go out with him?? When asked why, he states that: “when looking at your nipples, I got an erection” ??!?!??! - Chapter 5 - Teacher Gone Wild Tooru Sudou is known as a delinquent at school who frequently gets into fights. After one such incident, he is called to the guidance counsellor’s office, where he happens to find a porn magazine. After taking a tiny peek, he finds himself aroused, and unfortunately he ends up getting cornered by a teacher, mr. Mahiro Okazaki, who informs him: “I’ve had my eye on you for a while, cutie~” - Chapter 6 - Neverdays Yuu is a normal high schooler. One day, he finds himself getting confessed to by his childhood best friend, Minato. Accepting his feelings, the two begin dating and things seem perfect; but why does Minato keep acting so strangely sad...? —- Liked the first pairing the best. The pretty ikemen top and manly bottom combo is just so cute. Rei’s clingy-ness is also just so adorable~ I love pining- The story starts on an odd note, but as their relationship developed, I thought it was really cute. It’s a simple and lighthearted type of manga, and that’s just how I like it honestly lol. Not into the second story, rape, abuse, and loveless relationships just aren’t my thing. This was what mainly drug down the score I gave this. Third couple is another dumb fun kind of ordeal. The teacher/student and dubcon thing is... questionable, but if I turn off my brains alarm bells, then it’s fairly chill. Nothing great, but not bad either. Fourth couple was a good read. The mystery surrounding the plot had me pretty engaged, and I’m a sucker for some childhood-friend action lol. The angst was also quite good, and it added a layer to their relationship. For a one-shot, it’s one of the better ones I’ve read.
