Some of yall big immature. The only reason a lot of you hate Kikyo is bc she was a major threat to Kagome and Inuyasha. You don’t try to understand what it was like from her point of view. It states in the anime that the reason why it was so hard for her to let go of her hatred for Inuyasha was bc she died with that hatred consuming a major part of her thoughts. No duh. The guy she trusted and love betrayed her her and used her from her knowledge. It didn’t help that when she revives, Inuyasha kinda already moved on to her reincarnation. Plus, the one character says that the only reason Kikyo survived the fall of the waterfall when she did was bc her hatred for Inuyasha was what was keeping her kicking and pushing. Kikyo understood this hatred was slightly necessary. I know lots of people want to call Kikyo a btch but but she was really only ever a btch to Naraku, Kagome, and Inuyasha. Anyone else, especially children, she was kind to and risked her life for them. When she was alive, she still helped Onigumo despite knowing he was a murderer. The backstory of Kikyo was to show that she never got to live as a regular woman, to have a normal childhood, due to her duty as a miko and the protector of the shikon jewel. She was forced to mature early, have all these responsibilities she never asked for but she accepted. She does the same when she’s revived. Traveling alone because she feels as if she must rid the world of the tainted shikon jewel. Kagome was different bc Kagome is the soul of Kikyo’s that got to live a normal life before embarking on a journey. Both are selfless but they both inherited that trait from different experiences. Kikyo had a more tragic upbringing.
I realized a lot of people’s frustration goes to the fact that whenever Inuyasha had to choose between Kikyo or Kagome, he almost always chose to run and save Kikyo, hurting Kagome’s feelings. Yall that aint Kikyo’s fault. That’s Inuyasha’s fault but at the same time, he can’t help it. That’s like saying had Kagome and Koga had a past and she tried to save him, y’all wouldn’t be bashing on Koga just bc it hurts Inuyasha’a feelings. Grow up. Kikyo got in between Kagome and Inuyasha one time and that was the time she wanted Inuyasha to die with her. Any other time was Kikyo ignoring Inuyasha. You shouldn’t feel obligated to someone just bc they have strong affections for you. That is for Kagome and Inuyasha. Granted he loved Kagome as well but I feel as if the audience made it seem like Inuyasha owed Kagome his feelings bc of all the things she would do for him. Had Naraku never fractured Kikyo and Inu’s relationship, Kikyo would have done probably almost everything Kagome did for Inuyasha. Heck, she was willing to allow Inuyasha to use the shikon jewel. People really blaming Inuyasha for having feelings for someone else as if this isn’t a common trait. That’s like if your husband died, you remarry, and he comes back to life. Like who tf would you choose. It’s not like he died and you hated him. He died while the wife still loved him. She just moved on. When given the choice, I’m sure a lot of people in that situation wouldn’t know who to choose either. I mean Inuyasha’s should have chosen someone but he really did not know. He loved them both.
The tragedy’s is the fact that their love never blossomed and you can’t help but feel sorry for the two. They would have been together if not for Naraku and that’s easy to see. Kikyo angry that her childhood and love were never given a chance to blossom. Inuyasha feeling guilty that he was unable to protect Kikyo from everything. To live his life as a human with her. For her to be the one who died while SHE spared Inuyasha’s life. Yall. Kikyo didn’t even have the heart to kill Inuyasha. She only sealed him away.
Kikyo showed young girls that you can love a man, but he isn’t your top priority. It is heavily hinted that Kikyo still loved Inuyasha but she just went on her mission to do what she had to. She didn’t let Inuyasha get in her way. Mind you she gradually lets go of the anger as the story progresses. Kikyo is a good role model. Strong, independent, compassionate, intelligent, selfless and complex.
There really is no need for people to hate her the way they do.
