We need to move on from the idea that yaoi in context is predominantly porn because while rare and slim some yaois are still focused on plot and story.

if we're talking about flat, this is flat. it's one dimensional plot, cliched meetings, bland characters, cheesy dialogue, disgusting romanticization, and just plain and all not interesting, you can find the same shit like this in 20 out of 21 books.
and again, traumatizing shit isn't a thing to drive a story. it's actual development and plot and utilizing those tools to push forward characters and events while yes they are acceptable, just because a story doesn't have one doesn't mean it is bland because honey I've seen better than this and they don't have problematic or traumatic media.
