From what i understood. Nathan is actually axel's real dad. And his mother who is anya"s mother's sister cheated on her husband with nathan and they had axel. Thats why his 'dad' almost beat him to death. Cuz that wasn't his child and his wife cheated on him. So im guessing that makes axel and anya cousins.
The grandfather is probably keeping the mom away in a mental faciluty cuz they said she was crazy. I'm guessing because her little affair was found out and thats how she lost it. That or they're purposely seperating them cuz axel is a bastard child that they dont want to claim and since he lost his memories, his mom could tell him who he relly is.
