As an aroace, there were moments im Ashida's POV in this manga that hits too close to home for me. There's something scary and lonely about being in a relationship with people while knowing that you can't love them the way they love you or that you might grow tired of them and then inadvertently hurt them. I am in a long term relationship now, and there's not a day where I don't feel scared thinking that my feelings or the way I show my affection may be lacking or inadequate because I normally just base my show of affection on what I think a lover should do instead of what I feel. It's quite lonely when you desire and long to experience feeling romantic love in all its entirety but can only manage feeling some type of affection.
The art is breathtaking in the last 2 chapters. It literally took my breath away because the layout, the colors, the sequence made the event of her death so much more vivid and so much more haunting. It's like the artist was immersed in intense pain of heartbreak or of loss, like they were actually there while these events happened. Honestly, it's so so good.
Also, adult Jeremy and Nora looks absolutely devastating.
I'm not sure if Eusto (the emo knight) is the ML here (it seems to be the case, but again, I'm not sure), but honestly I kinda ship her with Cyril (the audacious (rude) kinda-tsundere glasses guy). I just think their dynamic is hilarious, so even though they've only had a few interactions, I enjoyed them much more than her interactions with the other 2 guys.
I actually like the current dynamic of Prince Julius and Scarlet. I like that Julius likes/loves her not in a romantic way for now but he seems genuine to her and shows her exactly what sort of person he really is. It's true that for now he seems to care for her because she entertains him (although I think his care for her runs deep since he did risk her life for her at all), and she seems to dislike or is annoyed with him but is also gradually learning to tolerate him, so this leaves for a lot of situations that will lead to certain changes in their emotions later on, so I'm looking forward to how their relationship changes/develops/progresses from here on out, whether romantically or platonically. It would've been quite boring really if the prince was already head over heels for Scarlet from the start like all the other guys are or will be (seemingly) since she's already so badass. I actually like that they're both not (that) attracted to each other and I'm excited as to how the prince realizes (if it ever happens, lol) he's finally, really fallen in love with Scarlet, and I'm also really looking forward to Scarlet developing romantic feelings for anyone of the male characters.
Okay, so I know he was technically in 10 levels of pain, so I really, really feel bad for laughing. I'm sorry to his ripped butt,
but also, pfffffttttttt.
I reread this and I am reminded as to why this is one of my favorite yaoi mangas.
Ayumu's "I am in love with you. HELPLESSLY, TERRIBLY IN LOVE WITH YOU... That's why I want you to be happy." still hits me right in the gut with butterfly wings and bee stings.
and Tojous' "Forgive me, it's because I'm a man, that's why I can't give birth to your kids either." made me wanna roll around from all the pleasant yet terrible mix of emotions I was experiencing.
I adore them both, helplessly, terribly.

Some of us reads through these types of plots in yaoi not because we like it but because we really are just fond of reading plots that are sometimes morally questionable because we are curious how the author salvages the reputation of the characters in the stories. Will the author be able to write a complex, tragic backstory? One that will be more than enough to justify his actions? Will it be cliche? Will the main character we hate in the first chapter have some development wherein we can finally understand him, or maybe even empathize with him? How will the author be able to turn this unlikeable, trashy character into someone the readers can forgive? How will the (sexually) abused character handle the (sexual) abuse? How will the redemption happen (will it be interesting ot not)? Etc, etc. It's these things that make me read through these types of stories. It's not actually that we like the rape part. It's what comes after it that we are curious about. Well, this is just my opinion though. But to each his own, still.
