Is it possible for other translators to override chapter submissions on a manga? Cuz this is kind of ridiculous and sort of unfair. If the original translator doesn't want to continue someone more fitting is more than happy to jump in. I get that this is an illegal site but, can we make the best of it please?
Hey, I have a lot of questions in regards to actually translating manga.
1. You should always buy the manga before you translate? The answer should always be yes, but sometimes I see some translation groups get away with it so I'm just asking in terms of law issues not moral.
2. Is there really a "claiming" situation going on with manga? For example, if I wanted to translate one manga but a group is already doing it but not in the best way, can I not work on it? Did they buy the rights or is it street cred?
3. Let's say someone was translating and just dropped it or shows no sign of translating it after months of lack of updates, can I pick up that manga and work on it?
4. How you become an "official translation group"? I see from groups flaunt that they are but I mean like where is your license? Is it like an establishment of being together for a year or longer?
5. Is it smart to be that one translator that drops like 10 chapters for every month instead of one chapter a week? I feel like some translation groups take on too much and then they drop it which makes readers sad. When I become one I'll just take only one story at a time.
6. From 1 to 10 how accurate must the language translation be in order to get the best grade? I feel like some readers forget that language has ambiguity and its a little difficult to properly translate everything into English. Like I speak fluent French but man trying to translate French speakers to English it's like trying to slice the air.
7. Going back to picking up a dropped manga. If the original translator somehow came back from the dead would you just stop translating? Or if you can prove that you submit better quality work, keep going? I have a list going of dropped manga that I want to pick up, but that fear of getting a very sensitive angry email, from a previous translator, is not on my to do list.
8. Have there ever been fighting amongst the translation groups? Again I can ignore the hate and drama, but like once you start sending me them threads, haha. Don't play with me Hunny, before an otaku I am a young independent woman don't got time to deal with introverts you don't know how to handle themselves.
1. If you can buy it, then buy it. Regardless of what other people do. The manga people bought & translates is owned by the author and so it's better to support him/her in any way, and also to avoid problems it's the best to ask permission whether you can translate it or not a lot of people just translate it but it's not fine.
2. Well just contact the team & check their websites almost every team puts their projects in a ongoing list or what's being dropped.
3. Well that depends If you are able to contact them then do so.. i mean i translate manga too and it's been a while but i would get mad if it suddenly gets taken away just like "shame application" my team just suddenly got replac
ed & i think that's disrespectful.
4. It's not really that you need a license, you can consider a friend who helps you out and keeps going, both together already a group. You're doing this together after all! You don't need proof but for people to see you're active, be friendly & post regular updates on times & dates.
5. It's better like that, but remember groups take on many projects & it's really hard, when people drop projects let another pick them up, the reader will be fine cause it's not like he/she will die. And i also have big problems with taking too much or too less, even if i have time i'd go and spend it on something else cause you're allowed to do so, translating isn't your duty or job..be free to do whatever you like!
6. Well i think it's annoying when a lot of grammar failures are made, but human isn't perfect & it's not restricted to be a fluent speaker, this is your choice & you're trying to help so fuck the haters & live yourself!
7. Well just ask the person, if he/she let's you know the person is working on it you can offer help, this is a way people create groups in the first place.
8. Yes a lot of people start fights & i can't blame them, all of this is hard & you need to spend A LOT of time on these things, people suddenly bush in & take their stuff it's like you're throwing away money! And it actually is cause people buy raws & some buy them splitten: that time I'll work this chapter but let's buy this now. NO don't buy unless you're sure! I'm surely pissed of because my projects get stolen so don't do that & calm down, either way contact the person who stolen your spotlight & this is exactly what i'm gonna do (don't be violant!) (▰˘◡˘▰)
1) translation is illegal so doesn't matter either way
2)they didn't "buy the rights", this is an illegal "industry"(?), also it rude and discourteous, if you wanna work on something that's already picked up, ask the group first
3) should be ok if its been a year or so, if its a month or two its probably because they're waiting for updates, then ask, if the group has said they dropped it then its ok to pick up without asking, if they haven't stated if its dropped or not, you need to ask unless its been like a year or something or if the group has disbanded
4)official just means they're ya know like a proper group, unless if official you mean hired to translate, like by the actual company and being paid
5)depends on how you feel like it
6) like at least 6
7)if its dropped (as in its announced its been dropped) its free game

first of its illegal, theres no buying of rights or whatever, no purchasing the manga from the author unless that's how you get the raws, this purely illegal
also are you planning to go as a solo translator? those usually do bad or meh job because well theyre solo and only know how to translate
Scanlation takes lots of time and includes many different jobs such as translating, proofreading, redrawing, cleaning, quality checking, typesetting
go join a team and work with them and learn because from this im led to believe that you dont understand that this isn't a business (mostly), its an illegal hobby, there wont be any passive aggressive emails from "introverts" to a "young independent women" using words such as "hunny", there will just be discord arguments and probably C&D requests
