Confirming new chapter out. Ines finally learns CP is marrying his fiancée after making her wait many years. Glimpse of new crown princess although she has appeared in a previous ch panel. Mendoza arc is around the corner but before that, the hunting trip that Ines spoke about in ep 65.
Mendoza arc brief spoilers
- Carcel’s mom, the best mom in this story, is introduced.
- Everyone who sees Ines is shocked by her transformation. Even her waiting lady whom Carcel’s mom summoned from Perez was surprised. Ines is supposed to finally look like she’s blooming when she returns to Mendoza. I can’t see it in the manhwa but definitely in the novel, she’s positively shining and happy and all the nobles gossip about it.
- official introduction of crown princess who is actually the first person who began Ines’s tragedies.
- Re-entry of crown prince and hints to him having his memories
- Crown prince and princess plot to make Ines his mistress
- Ines learns from Carcel’s mom all the bad things that happened to him as a 6 year old kid providing the manhwa doesn’t cut them. These are things that happened because she chose him as his fiancé at 6.
- Ines realizes she never took Carcel’s life seriously so she begins to seriously read his old war letters that were sent to her to familiarize herself with all the dangers he faced when she didn’t think much about his life.
- Carcel begins to regain vague memories of his past lives after an assassination attempt on his life. He remembers the two men in Ines’s past
- Carcel visits Ines in the capital since she sent him a letter saying she missed him. He finds her at a party at the palace where Crown prince couple was trying to coerce her into dancing with the crown prince.
- Ines hears Carcel’s voice, gets up and run into his arms. All the young nobles at the party were all shocked by them. Ines was genuinely happy to see Carcel and the lovers sincerity was on display for all to see.
- Carcel takes Ines home and he starts to have memories of the two men from Ines past again. He asked Ines if she likes him to which she says yes. He’s remembering his unrequited love in the past two lives.
- Ines and Carcel has hot and very wild sex. Ines even tells Carcel he can do whatever he wants to her. She thinks privately to herself that as long as it’s him, it’s okay. Next morning her waiting lady finds her blushing like a teenager when she’s reading the love letter Carcel’s left for her before he returned to Calztela in the early morning hours.
-Waiting lady is pleased that her mistress had hot wild sex with her husband as she retrieves all the torn pieces of clothing off the floor in their bedroom. She commends her mistress for being passionate like a true Perez woman.
- Carcel arranged for Ines’s brother to escort her to a field tournament where the crown prince couple was trying to make it look like Ines will become crown prince mistress. Ines’s tells her brother of the plot. Starting now, Ines and her brother will begin to work together to counter the crown prince couple schemes. Ines also tells her brother how crown princess tried to harm Carcel as a child.
- Ines notices Carcel has a bullet graze on his side. She writes to Raul to find out the truth since Carcel was obviously trying to prevent her from asking questions. Raul writes back and tells her the truth that an assassin appeared in their bedroom in Calztela and tried to kill Carcel when he was asleep.
- Ines is enraged by the news. She even breaks down crying and cursing because Raul told her that Carcel knew about the assassin attempt since the hunting trip and he sent her to Mendoza to his parents because their mansion has knights and security to protect her. Raul also told her how relieved Carcel was that they were only trying to kill him and not her.
-Ines suspects it’s the crown prince that was trying to kill Carcel once again. She starts to curse the crown prince and even vaguely wonders if the crown prince has his memories.
- Ines goes on a shopping spree in the capital to buys lots of guns, weapons and knives for Carcel. Then she adds clothes and jeweled cuffs for him and send them all to Calztela.
- After shopping a shocking event occurs. Ines meets the Angel in this story. He’s a Catholic priest in this timeline. She fears him with good reason. He gives her back forgotten memories after commending her for making the right choice in this timeline.
I think that should do it as an appetizer. lol There is so much more that will happen.
First thing to get out of the way is the fact that the manhwa left out an extremely important detail in the flashback to the time when Luciano found out how terribly Ines was living as crown princess. He said all those things because the crown prince guards were listening to his conversation at the door. Ines realized this during the dream but as usual, this manhwa left out this pertinent detail. This manhwa always does this. It’s like the manhwa team didn’t read the novel and have no idea what crucial details are. *sighs*
Moving on, as usual people are jumping the gun. They don’t wait for revelation when falsely accusing Luciano of not helping Ines in that timeline. In fact, part of the reason Ines killed herself is because she realized her brother was plotting rebellion. One of the reasons she decided to end her own life is because she did not want her family to be dragged down as traitors. Luciano even gave her a bullet and told her to kill the crown prince and if she can’t do it, he will do it because they cannot live in a world with the crown prince. He told his sister he will take responsibility for all of it whether she kills him or he kills him.
After Ines killed herself to prevent the demise of her family, Luciano still got hold of the deposed CP and cut off his limbs one per day. He had him locked up in a dungeon and he would get a doctor to prevent the crown prince from dying just so he could torture him each day.
Even in this current timeline, the only person the crown prince fears is Luciano. Why? Luciano has rebelled against the imperial family in every timeline except this current timeline. He’s like a sleeping lion who when poked, comes out roaring. So he’s practically responsible for Oscar’s death in some way or another in all the previous timelines.
As to readers, it seems they still haven’t learned anything about this story. Even though the manhwa so far has revealed there is a lot of hidden information, people are still jumping to conclusions about what actually happened in the previous timelines. There hasn’t even been full revelation of any timeline.
Here is the novel excerpt as the Korean author wrote it. In other words, this is direct translation from the Korean text:
[He was looking at the handprints that remained on his sister's neck and wrist with his sunken eyes with a face already filled with hatred towards his sister's husband, as the crown prince's guards stood by the door monitoring them. (The crown prince left his guards to listen and watch what the siblings were doing and saying. Crown prince knows Luciano is a dangerous man. How? That’s a huge spoiler for those who do not already know how)
Unlike her mouth, which spit out all kinds of resentment and curses just like in her memory, she saw everything that she was blind to before, in her dream.]
The above shows Ines Escalante is now seeing everything that crown princess Ines Valenza didn’t see before in the scene. Later, Ines continue to reveal more and we learn that her brother was dead-set on killing the crown prince. Another thing that readers don’t seem to realize is that this is not a fantasy world where nobles just act without thinking of the implications to their family. Luciano just cannot rebel without first plotting it out.
Thank you for this spoiler but some of the readers here don't read the novel doesn't know that they leave some important parts like what the first comment said. You can't blame us for hating Luciano and jumping to conclusions since we don't have any information about that important parts as the artist leaves the crucial parts.
Again, thank you for the information about Luciano. It helps a lot. ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
I have been reading novels long enough to know not to jump to conclusions. BR has shown already that a lot of things get revealed as the story progresses. I’m sure many people thought that Carcel was just the third guy when Ines chose him at 6 years old. Manhwa already shows there is a lot hidden about Carcel as it relates to Ines and the story will only continue to reveal a lot more.
Readers insisted before that Ines’s family forced her to marry the crown prince. Then manhwa hunting dream eventually revealed that Ines was the one who chose the crown prince. Manhwa even left out that at a young age, Ines would beg her father to take her to the capital city and when she got there, she would play “hard to get” with the crown prince. It was a mutual relationship. Her family never chose anyone for her in any timeline. None.
Manhwa also obscured the fact that there was dubious consent when Ines first slept with the painter while engaged and three months before her marriage. That drawing of her sitting on top of the painter, with a ‘cold and emotionless face’ while he is crying, only hints at the truth. They were both strangers in that scene and she went to his bedroom in the middle of the night, naked, and dubcon him.
Everything that makes Ines look bad in the novel was discarded or cut from the manhwa. The manhwa team only do not cut her actions that cannot be cut because it will hinder the story.
Well. It's you. But it's different with other people. You can't force them. xD I also read novels, but sometimes, I still can be hasty. And you already read the novel so you know the progress, and what scene was cut off from the story. The flashbacks and some hidden information were kind of jumble and it was confusing since just only tiny bit of them are shown, and not entirely.
Oh they did? Never read anything about that. For me, I know that she was not forced but she wants to be with the crown prince.
I think that it was a mishap on the artist side of how they portray them. I see. The fact that there's a lot missing things in manhwa saddens me. The art is good. They all look good! I do hope that they will fix things and includes everything what was written in the novel.
Even when I read the novel I wasn’t jumping to conclusions. :) I soon realized that everything is not what it seems. :)
The manhwa team obscured a lot of things. Ines was not a good fiancée by any stretch of the imagination to Carcel. Hopefully they won’t cut some of the things that will reveal more about how indifferently she treated Carcel’s life. It’s clear that the team focused more on making Ines look good and they inadvertently made everyone else look like the villain. That’s not how the novel goes. Ines’s bad actions and bad personality were clear from the beginning of the story to the point that Korean readers complained about her. That might be why they whitewash or obscure most of her bad actions and attitude.
Another thing is, they draw her as the most beautiful female and draw all the other females as plain or ugly. In the novel, there were other beautiful women besides Ines and Maria. I have never seen a manhwa draw side characters so plain or ugly.
In the novel, Carcel is the most handsome man with exceptionally good looks. Manhwa doesn’t draw him that way. I remember before the manhwa came out, a Korean novel reader had commented on the novel publisher site that she would hate for the story to get a manhwa because she felt the artist they choose might not be able to capture Carcel’s exceptionally handsome look. Sure enough this artist couldn’t. Carcel is supposed to look handsome on the level of the stares that Isidor in Perks of Villainess gets. Ines always associate him with the sun or light or brightness. She also describes him as ‘the most handsome man in the world without borders’. Drawing aside, the portrayal of his character is trending towards comical when in the novel, Carcel is a more serious guy. He’s a responsible husband, son, brother, heir and military officer.
I see. They changed a lot of things. How sad. I do hope so for the next season! Though I like the art. T.T I can't believe that Carcel is supposed to be extremely handsome. Gawd. He's already handsome, but if they followed the novel I bet I'll die because of him. Such a handsome man. Oh! But does the novel describe Ines as a simple beautiful woman? Not enough to be called most beautiful? Perhaps the artist might be a fan of Ines so they drew Ines and Maria prettier than the others? xD jk
Both Maria and Ines are beautiful. However, there are ladies in Mendoza society who are just as beautiful. If Ines was already more beautiful than Mendoza ladies, she wouldn’t have to starve herself in the crown princess timeline to stay beautiful. Ines is truly most known for her sexy, voluptuous body. That’s the part most talked about. But to Carcel, Ines is the most beautiful person in the world no matter her bad personality. He knows her flaws but loves them. He’s not blind to them. That’s the thing about him. Carcel is said to get his outstanding looks because his mother’s looks were added to his mold. Both are beautiful but objectively, the people in Mendoza credit Carcel as the most handsome one.
Oh and yes, the artist is a fan of Ines. If they were professionals, they would draw the characters as the novel laid out. The characters aren’t theirs. They belong to the novel author. Novel author doesn’t show favoritism between Carcel and Ines. She treats them equally when commenting on them and their actions. Novel author even says Ines is selfish but has a conscience.
I don’t think she hates him but sees him more like someone who loves Ines. She was asked in an interview what BR is about and she says it’s about love between the two main characters. Other novel fans seem to think that she has no say and draws the story according to the story board by the storyteller. Storyteller is a fan of Raul and asked the artist to draw Raul more handsome and the artist complied. That just shows how unprofessional they are.
From the last blog post the novel author made about BR, it’s clear that somebody related to the manhwa business upset her. Ever since that, the author has pretty much distanced herself from the manhwa. She doesn’t talk much about BR anymore except as it pertains to the novel.
I notice that suddenly there’s this influx of people who clearly didn’t read the manhwa and they come here with all sorts of misinformation while declaring it’s their opinion. Newsflash: Carcel is the only man in this manhwa who didn’t hurt Ines. How come all of a sudden he’s accused of killing her former lover is beyond me. Then there’s the shade thrown on the author’s work saying the only story worth telling is the one from only one timeline. If that’s the reader’s opinion, they don’t have to read Ines and Carcel’s story. It’s as simple as that. It’s not about you. It’s all about the story the author wants to tell.
Sorry but I don’t write people off because of their past, sin or mistakes. I’m not that self-righteous. Furthermore, if engagement’ is all it takes for a person to be a cheater then Ines and the man she slept with while engaged are also cheaters. Those are the facts. Glad you dropped the story though.
Seeing Carcel as a female in special episode 1 in Ines’s imagination reminds me of the author’s “What-if” story of Ines & Carcel as the opposite sex. Female Carcel and Male Ines. The artist for this manhwa also did fanart of Carcel as a female and Ines as a male. LOL It was quite interesting how Female Carcel firmly decided to give up on Male Ines and marry someone else. It was the thing that lit a fire under Male Ines.
Not sure what’s so derisive about being invested in this story because we love the characters. There are inveterate fans of certain anime, manga, manhwa, book series, tv shows, etc. Fandoms like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Solo Leveling, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Tower of God, etc., all have inveterate fans. Welcome to Fandom!

I can’t help feeling that the manhwa brought forward a development. The image shown when Carcel talks about Ines dying in childbirth is uncannily like the flashback she will have in season 3 when Ines finds out that Carcel was taking contraceptives. They fight and Carcel tells her the reason why he took the contraceptive. He had already stop taking the contraceptive at the time of the fight though. When Carcel tells her he doesn’t want to risk her life for her giving birth to their child if she’s still prone to seizures, Ines immediately gets a flashback to another timeline revealing a bombshell truth. The extremely interesting thing is that Carcel is genuinely scared about her having a child and he has absolutely no reason why beyond her last seizure. He doesn’t know he’s instinctively reacting to a bombshell truth from a different timeline. Only Ines will realize it during the scene of their future fight.
Also, the manhwa has already shown things from a different timeline for Ines and Carcel hat the reader won’t realize until later. None of them were revealed in the previous dreams. These are things that Carcel have done in a different timeline that he doesn’t know he did before in another timeline. It’s pretty interesting.
Important things this chapter:
1. Inés starts to trust Cárcel a little more with the things about her true self.
2. Inés admits this is the first time she’s lived a life where she feels ‘safe and secure’. Hence, she’s never lived a life like this before.
3. Inés actually admits to being exhausted. Manhwa posed it as a question but novel explicitly has her say she’s exhausted from ‘walking and crawling in anxiety outside the safe boundary’ which is (Cárcel).
4. Inés decides she wants to live as her true self. This is actually a pivotal moment. Inés’s goal in this life was to live carefully so she can finally die for good. In this episode, she wants to live like her true self now. She no longer wanted to live the way she used to.
5. In the novel, this section ends with Inés wishing the present moment she and Cárcel shared wouldn’t pass. She found her thought contradictory because she’d always been living wishing time would pass quickly yet she didn’t want this moment to pass.
A sweet moment that Inés and Cárcel also shared is their bickering over her safety. Cárcel always treats Inés like she’s delicate glass after her near-death experience so he was opposed to Inés riding a horse to the hunting lodge especially since he doesn’t know the extent of her horseback riding experience. He’s also worried that she would be tired since she’s been living confined to their home. Inés complained that he always treat her like she’s so delicate. Cárcel asks her how many times does he have to explain how much he cares about her. (His statement brings tears to her eyes) She wonders why does he make everything okay. Cárcel then tells her his worries about her will always surpass her stubbornness. Ugh. These two.
The reason why Ines’s mom is so unhinged is because she’s mentally ill. There’s a past story that exists for her. While she and Ines have probably burned too many bridges between them, since Ines remembers two timelines, the fact is the author wrote this story from a human perspective. Her mother is not totally a lost cause. Carcel’s mom will eventually find out how Ines’s mom treated her children and she’ll talk to her about her bad behavior and counsel her on being a better wife, MIL and grandmother. It might be too late for her and Ines but it’s never too late for Ines’s mom and her future daughter-in-law and all the grandkids Ines’s mom will get to babysit. At least Ines can be civil with her mom at some point in the future. Carcel’s family will be a blessing to the Valeztenas.
So in this story, unless people don’t change, they are never written off.
