I just spent an entire chapter sobbing. I can understand both sides. Being told by someone close to the one you love that your lover broke their promise and betrayed you would've been so heartbreaking, especially as it was also something that related to his childhood trauma. Then finding out that it was all fabricated to make him believe that his lover betrayed him in the worst way (not cheating but by enacting his childhood trauma would've been horrific for him) would've made him feel so agonised that he didn't believe his lover.
But because of the trauma relating to the gambling and abuse of his father, it would've been so hard to believe it as everything relating to that would've been something he wanted as far away from him as possible.
His heart breaking over and over again outside that door was agonising to watch and god I hope they can heal each other through this.
