I've been reading this manga since 2016 right after Sabita Yoru Demo Koi Wa Sasayaku and honestly, I dont feel the author gave Yumi his due...

When this story started it was such an emotional roller coaster --I remember screaming THE PICTURE THE PICTURE while almost crying-- and it was pretty good as we learned how bad Kan was doing in life and how he was growing from his past, so when it seemed Yumi was gonna get his WELL DESERVED apology I thought we would get a whole redemption scene... Kan BEGGING Yumi or something like that but... the author just put the whole plot weight on Shuuna and Kan almost didnt do anything....

Like Kan was a whole piece of shit, he literally ruined Yumi's life...

Idk, this finale seems a bit superfluous but well it is nice to know Kan changed, regreted and learned

While I can understand the frustration, tbh I kinda liked this ending, it actually felt more realistic (tho it is an easy end for kan i suppose, i actually also feel it’s a realistic one. It’s actually nice seeing they were both able to move on and I appreciate that kan is respectful enough to not show up in front of yumi who is now happy in his life)

As much as I would agree with you in normal circumstances, I think in this case, the story has made it pretty obvious why that apology scene is not what the both of them want and certainly NOT what Yumi needs. Even if Kan were to grovel on his knees and apologize to Yumi while crying, that would only make us the readers feel satisfied that the asshole abuser from the prequel at least apologized for his actions. But as Kan said, if he did that, Yumi would certainly forgive him because he feels partially guilty for not being able to help Kan and, most importantly, Kan absolutely does NOT want to be forgiven. He doesn’t want Yumi to forgive him and an apology only seems cheap so he won’t do it and instead, choose to relive what he did to Yumi everyday as self-punishment by staring at the photos, never having closure for himself (that is, until Shuuna comes along).

Similarly, Yumi wants to leave Kan and his relationship in the past and move on with his new lover. The last thing these two need is a grand apology for everything that had transpired thus far because they both know some things can never be forgiven - an apology could never make any of their scars fade - but apology or not, it also won’t make the fact that they truly loved each other back then disappear either. So instead of seeking for amendments and apologies over their abusive relationship which in the end won’t lead anywhere, they both simply chose to accept the tragedy and scars and find closure on their own. And in my opinion, I think that is the most realistic ending.

Not everyone wants an apology. An apology doesn’t make the pain disappear. All you can do is forget the past and move on with your lives.

Yeah, I see your point about not showing up out of nowhere bc that would be pretty triggering to Yumi, yet I feel the author could have shown some more resentment... but I get the point!

First of all, I'd like to say that you explained everything quite well, thank you so much!

I agree with you too about the story and its development because I totally see how it can be a realistic reasonable finale.

Of course my commentary is more about my own personal way of thinking and how I was feeling the plot evolution leaning towards an apology where both of them could close this chapter of their lives in a less traumatic way.

What I was expecting was Yumi acknowledging Kan regrets and changes, not about making the scars fade but about Kan assuming -publicly (?)- all the blame on himself. Not about Yumi forgiving him, but about Yumi knowing he -himself- was not guilty nor a perpetrator so he can rest in peace -bad way to explain myself haha-.

So the finale leads to them moving on accepting the past and *actively* closing the chapter, instead of just passively letting it go.

But then again, I can totally see your point!

honestly, this had SO MUCH potential if the author would have chosen the path of psychological drama in a longer story instead of the easy happyflower ending but it was fun and interesting to read
