It may be fictional but that's exactly why its fetishization. Some bad apples DO fetishize gay men which spoils the rest of bunch. If you view gay men as regular people with actual value other than being gay, you're fine. Dont worry about what other people say, theres always going to be grouping bad apples with the rest of the bunch.
