This is kinda stupid. This is her 14? I don't remember but life and she's still acting like a naive fool. Like, she could plan and try to attack the demonic archduke to escape from this miserable world but she couldn't stand up for herself when she was insulted by Sebastian? And the ml originally wanted to use her so, nah, that's rude af. I read until chapter 24 and from the looks of it, ml knows her secrets. The blond and ml being previously engaged, the two faced bitch always holding a grudge for that is so typical af that I'm tired of it. I'm sure the fl will get the end stick of this jealousy and the ml will be blissfully unaware. She is also the real daughter, isn't she? I hate these misunderstandings, this will be revealed so many chapters later. And I'm also sure she'll not stand up for herself against the low life rats and the blonde like, what? You are strong, you have such divine power, you have lived so many lives! Use your brain and don't let anyone humiliate or use you if you want to stay with your new family, instead of dying.
You have to remember that in her past lives, 1) she had never been properly educated 2) she was abused and tortured for all of her past lives. Even if we assume she died only 6 years after her awakening as a saint, when you do the math, that makes it 72 years of continuous torture and abuse. It could even be more than that. I'm surprised she didn't completely break from it all.
Her plan with the Duke came from desperation - she needed to grab any situation she could for a chance of dying, thus it had nothing to do with her smarts. The matter with Sebastian is completely different and the two situations can't even be compared.
The beginning of this story focuses more on healing rather than Esther's revenge, but it seems that s2 will dwelve deeper into it. Esther will gain confidence from what I've read, but it obviously won't come immediately for someone who's, again, been abused for a whole lifetime over and over again.
Esther is dealing with her trauma, and it's important for her to feel safe and secure before she can start planning her revenge more.
I'm not asking for revenge, lol. I'm saying, she shouldn't suffer under those nobles because I hate that kind of thing in manhwa's. I have read manhwa's in which the protagonist was abused, kept in a laboratory or whatever for years and she still didn't take shit from anyone. If you're ready to die, If you want to escape this world desperately then you're not afraid of anything if it leads to death in the end.
Amd if she chooses to stay with her new family, start a new beginning with her love interest, then she shouldn't be afraid of using whatever she have at her disposal, be it a common card or joker. If you have something to look forward to, a reason to live for, you'll do anything to protect that, won't you?
And that is exactly what she's doing. Towards the end of s1 she finally admits she wants to live and move forward, and makes steps to control her divine power and find out more about things relating to it/the temple (for her future revenge).
As for comparing her with other characters, again, all her life until now she had been told how her existence is a sin, how worthless she is, how useless she is, etc etc. She doesn't have any memories or experience where she would gain that confidence to go against her enemies, so it only makes sense for her to accept the abuse in the beginning. It's only after she receives the love and care of people around her for her to realise she has value, and life is worth living. Also, character personalities are different. Just because someone's defense mechanism against abuse is to strike back, that doesn't mean someone else's defense mechanism (ie. Accepting the abuse) is any less valid.
I don't want to tell you to continue reading if you really don't want to, bc that's completely fine. Not all stories are for everyone. I'm just trying to tell you that a lot of the things you're talking about don't seem as highly probable to happen imo, and things have started getting more into motion after where you left off. I'm trying to explain where Esther is coming from and why this story is taking things slower than some others, because I don't see her as just some idiotic pushover - just an abuse victim who lacks confidence in her existence. She starts gaining more and more confidence as the story progresses.
