I think she's a marchioness as mentioned in the manhwa or maybe it's a mistranslation. But she won't be a duchess since the duke still has a wife so technically based on monarch hierarchy she isn't a woman that's second in power. (But like she let the duke dance on her fingers lol)

marchioness is not a mistranslation. she was given a title by lucio at the beginning of the story (in order to make her look like a powerful noble beside him) but lost it when she was accused by lizzy during the hunting competition.

and you missed the point of my previous comment. she does not get power because she'll "become the duchess". she doesnt need nor want that. with the real duchess away abroad and because she's duke ephreny's adoptive (and only) daughter, rose is the temporary head woman of house ephreny. because of this, she has the opportunity of becoming empress since patrizia had been accused of infertility. if the empress seat is open or questionable, they take a woman from the highest noble ranks (the dukes first and foremost). thus, rose is a candidate.

why does that give her power? with that being said, there are 3 dukedoms in the empire: EPHRENY, OSWINS (late empress alisa's house), and WITHERFORD. the duchess (duke ephreny's wife) is obviously married so becoming empress is blah. at the same time she is not present in the empire; she is abroad tending to her sick son in the academy. oswins doesnt have any information of whether they have a lady or not since theyve been lowkey after what empress alisa did. witherford has a daughter but she is married. this automatically makes rose the ONLY CANDIDATE to replace patrizia. thus- confirming what i said, "she is a princess and a woman second in rank to patrizia".

lucio cant get rid of her that easily because of all the power and attention she was able to get. the people are still convinced that patrizia is infertile and rose will have no choice but to bear an heir and take her place. assuming lucio did get rid of rose despite that fact, he could be dethroned through a coup.

Yeah... no. She only stays at palace cause she is a mistress. If she is not, she has to stay out of royal property. Marchioness, duchess, candidate for heir bearing or whatever, she has zero relations to royals at the moment.

i never said she had relations to the crown. but that doesn't change the fact that the public thinks shes significant cause shes the only eligible woman to give birth to lucio's child. that gives her enough power to stay in the palace and enough power not to be taken out. tho that'll change in the next few chapters

if we really consider hierarchy then duke ephreny's wife the duchess is second to Patrizia considering the house of ephreny is the top dukedom in the empire. but since she ain't around it automatically goes to rose even tho shes adopted. its the same concept to "the monster duchess and the contract princess". leslie is third in rank in the kingdom after the queen and her adoptive mother, the duchess.

If person has no relation to royals or crown, it could and would be yeeted from the royal palace. Even if it is 2nd only to the ruler, unless they are related or somehow relevant to palace functioning, they would be living elsewhere if not given permission to reside in palace by the monarch. But that is how irl worked, not the world of this manga.
