I really like Mai's approach. She lived part of her youth being very attached to her brother, she knows that he is a monster and has her old memories, and yet she loves him. She is never disgusted by him nor want stop him using violence.
Even though childhood plays an important role, these old memories should predominate and she should not react like that at all.
So I think she's quite disturbed too, it just doesn't express itself as a desire to harm others :)
