I don’t think the director is a guy. I think she’s a transgender woman. Hence why growing her hair out was so important. Not all trans women but a lot say they were sad being forced to cut their hair short when younger, because everyone perceived them as a boy then. Might also be why she’s so cold to men, because a lot of cis men freak out when they learn a woman they were interested in is trans. I could be way wrong, but that’s my theory.
