well, sometimes when you love someone you choose to accept their lie even when you are fully aware that they are lying...
when I read this in Korean I actually interpreted/translated the last words in a different way where I think the ML guy (forgot his name now.. :/) said he wants to believe tae's words even though he was able to detect there was more to the story base on tae's face.
So therefore the ML's action can then be interpreted as him wanting to feel love and emotions that he is so unfamiliar with which means that his action is not coming from a place of stupidity/ foolishness but rather a choice... he is choosing to trust Tae (but obviously you can argue that for itself is foolish)
so I think when you view it this way you would feel less disappointed with the character, and you wouldn't feel like the value and characteristic of the original character is being tampered instead you can view this as a temporary reaction to his emotions and weakness or has character development.
Anyways here the translator interpreted it into saying he wants to find the truth.. so for me, that's up for interpretation.
