I just recently dropped the novel after reading almost about half of it, after seeing the manhwa adaptation (gorgeous art) and comments about "how good the writing is" and let me tell you: It pains me to think of what kind of deep shit people are reading these days to think >this< is good writing.

Not only because of the toxic male lead. In fact, the whole plot being a big merge of your typical cliches is precisely the little strength it has to keep you going for a while. What, with the rich obsessive bad boy & wailing at her knees long-time-one-sided-love-best friend, it all makes for the perfect soap opera...

... Until not even the soap opera troupes are enough for you to keep up with how much there's absolutely NO PLOT. Kid you not, there's not a single interaction between the ML and FL that doesn't start with her falling from a tree, falling in the river, falling from her bicycle, then falling from her bicycle again, then being hit by a car, then falling with something in her hands. The author is absolutely incapable of (keeping her in the vertical for 1 chapter straight) making any kind of organic encounter or scenery that doesn't sprout from some kind of accident, given the lack of ongoing relevant plotline.

The majority of dialogues between the leads is him being provocative towards her and her stuttering, blushing, mumbling and rebuking him. To no break. It's cute in the first, what? 20 chapters? 30? Then it goes on and on and I started panicking for my sanity.

I'd always try and reach for a few more chapters hoping there'd be some progress, but as the story goes on, it seems like they digress in mental age. There's scenes such as him tripping her legs so she falls and he catches her, blocking the corridor and even (bro) SPILLING PAINT ON HER just to urrr durrr make her irritated. Like, what are we? 5 years old? Is that supposed to be the ohhhh nooo sadistic duke?

Anyways. The story is a masterpiece for those who love Wattpad male leads and FL with undiagnosed labyrinthitis.

I thought the FL would be some badass I mean she went through hell before meeting uncle Bill. I was hoping that she can at least stand up for herself. Still hoping that they can change all the toxic part of the novel in to a better one. Better yet just change some plot or something (ノ-_-)ノ~┻━┻

It's because the translation's really bad. I read that the person who translated the novel was a beginner in korean, so everything was distorted. I'm sure the ML is still toxic, but even toxicity can be interesting sometimes, given if your writing's good. I think the original probably portrayed the ML better.

Xylade July 2, 2021 7:25 am

Okay by now I’m sure everyone reading this knows the ending. I had it spoiled for me before she even encountered the third potential ML. So the novel is about a FL who tried to change herself and inherit her knighthood instead of having to marry the prince. I Hated, Hated, HATED how powerless she was to cancel the engagement. It sucked how none of the other ML even had a chance because she was engaged to the cretin the whole time. Yes I know that in his past life he was being poisoned and having his mind turn wonky... BUT who in their right mind looks into the face of one responsible but such atrocities and loved them. Forgives them, maybe. But to love the power tripping guy who doesn’t even respect your opinion enough to let you cancel an engagement, Never.

Weak heroine. Weak ending. Forgiving the unforgivable. Overused tired plots.
This manhwa is one of the most bashed for a good reason.

Weak heroine. Enough of a reason to not read this shit.

Honestly this was such bullshit. From chapter 90 I had already seen the clues and gave up. Bruh the disappointment

Rant alert, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is mine. I am "amazed" at the author who made this story and any authors who makes similar trope like this. A lot of readers say 1st ruve and 2nd ruve is different but honestly sis, NO. Some say "oh the past is the past, he's different now". Like yo he literally ABUSED her physically and emotionally and HUMILIATED her to such a degree that would cause any sane person to have PTSD and just extreme trauma for the rest of their lives. Of course tia is reincarnated but her memories stayed perfectly intact didn't it? She's INSANE to "forgive and forget" as though he did nothing to her in the past . Honestly I have a hard time comprehending authors who romanticise this sort of trope. Put yourself in the FL situation, you would actually love someone who abused, manipulated, abandoned and killed you? Really? Like we can see the attempt on making us almost sympathetic towards ruve cause he was oh manipulated by his father *fake sobs*. There is no excuse using your shitty past to make someone else's life fucking hell especially when that person did nothing wrong to you and in fact cares about you (tia in the past). In essence this story is basically a FL who will end up loving her literal past abuser and killer because the ML is oh so pitiful since he was manipulated in the past so that excuses his toxic and revolting behaviour. PTSD who? Never heard of it. Trauma who? She doesn't exist. Time defying Stockholm syndrome? Absolutely. Hotel? Trivago.

Maybe this us why I initially had no motivation to finish the manwha ... thank you

    Aelaio May 11, 2021 2:58 pm

Honestly so glad I found this comment before I started reading it. I’ll just leave this be and keep searching for other royal Manhwa’s/ Manga’s.

    drat May 11, 2021 3:37 pm

and you know what? we never knew why tia loved him in the last life except for some fake fate bullshit. WHAT was so good about him in the past life, the way he ignored her, hated her and disrespected her even before the marriage? or even worse, what he did After marriage? fucking hell.

Xylade April 25, 2021 12:47 pm

You see the problem with these type of stories where the protagonist goes back to the past and in the end, still ends up with her past abuser with the excuse of "he's changed, he's not the same person as he was in the past" is that it romanticizes past trauma, toxic relationships, and abusive behavior which is not and will never be a good reading material. Your pain or even a drug, although explains it, is never an excuse to abuse another. Moreover, the characters don't feel real at all, they just serve as a plot device so the audience's sympathy would fall on the female protagonist. Having side characters as a plot device isn't a bad thing yes but your main cast shouldn't just serve as some plot device, sadly in this case, they do.

While we don't blame the characters for turning into what they are, it is ultimately the author's fault. Stories involving emotional abuse and healing over it takes a lot of emotional maturity. If the author intended for Ruve and Tia to end up together, she shouldn't have made him Tia's abuser. As a writer, you have the responsibility to take proper care of the themes you want to portray in order to not send the wrong message to your audience. Stories shape worldviews, folks.

So I caution you, only read this if you want an example of what bad writing is, how you shouldn't romanticize certain things, how the characters only serve as a plot device for the protagonist, and how the author failed to deliver her story's chosen themes properly.

Xylade April 25, 2021 12:46 pm

This is something I think I disliked the absolute most about this series: she never had a choice. In chapter 9, you see a scene of Ruve crying over Aristia. In chapter 142, you see that same scene. So, if the ending was predetermined since she was 10, Ari never 'escaped' her fate; Pioneer means nothing. Conclusively, this story speaks on how one cannot escape their fate. Well then damn, what was the point?

And one last thing: Aristia's love was never real. We learn this in chapter 9. Her love was a substitute for Jieun's, who was dumped in another world at the fault of Vita. So then, what was the point of such information when she slowly begins to fall in love with Ruve in the second life? Is it to show that her love is free from the ties of fate? But such cannot be, since Ari is still strung along to god's fate game.

I granted this series two stars, mainly for how it started, and for its art. Drawing these kinds of strips takes long hours, and all artists should be respected for putting their effort.

The Message of this is literally "live your life to be this man's wife, get betrayed, raped, used and abused, lose your father and your mind because of him and when you have a chance to escape all of that, try giving him another shot because he's a changed man and surely he won't do the same things again" -- I cannot stress this enough but this is the classic and most basic abuse victim mentality that leads to IRL deaths! This may be a fantasy story but this is not something that should be put into anyone's mind! It's f*cking TOXIC and honestly disgusting.

It's honestly funny how I have read other works where the characters were written to be the most vile and disgusting ones possible, even the main ones, and yet this is one of the few who has garnered such hate from me and most definitely the one who garnered it in the shortest amount of time. Author needs to stop fantasizing about abuse and how "everyone can change" and understand that while that is true and people can change, that doesn't mean they shouldn't suffer some consequences for it (justice is different from karma). Trash prince might be an alternate TL version of the one who did those horrendous actions, but the fact that Idiot Lead barely even seems to care about it after living through, dying and then having God intervene on her behalf to give her a second chance is the gravest problem of all.

Looking at the bigger picture: this means that everything the Idiot Lead went in the 1st TL was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in order for her to go back and put into effect the chain of events that would "redeem" the asshole.

That's not redemption for the Male Lead; it's just damnation for the work itself.

My final rating:
2/10 for pretty art -- I at least respect the artist who had to endure this shit and put this garbage into form and color.

youre the second person ive had to respond to and im not even gonna bother typing a new message so here you go,
you are so quick to judge and hate before actually trying to find reasons why such stuff even happened...
you think tia wouldve been comfortable ending up with ruve had that all been genuine?
pay attention to details more next time.
in the original timeline, Zena had poisoned ruve and those actions of his were the result of the poisoning (basicallly, zena drugged ruve with smth to make him lose all inhibitions and slowly start hating and being insecure over everything)
in the remedial timeline, zune poisons both ruve and tia this time too, but they manage to get help in time which is how tia learns the truth of the og timeline but she obv was still too hesitent about it
eventually she tells ruve about it and instead of him berating her and telling her it was a silly nightmare, he apologises and even cries if i remember right
these are just the barest details.
go do your own research and then form an opinion based off of truth and facts

I believe you are the one who clealry have not paid attention.

    - First Ruve's actions were is own. He hated her without that. Even with the poison he was rational enough to keep ruling, to accuratly understand that her family had been framed (even if he didn't care) and more importantly let him keep his self-control around everyone else. If he really had gone mad because of the poison he would have attacked others just as badlly. In case you forgot he was avoiding her most of the time. Ji-eun, the servants and his secretary were the one with him most of the time but strangly enough never go to enjoy his violent side. "Tia attracted all his bad temper toward her" can't be true because, as said, she wasn't their most of the time. Ergo, the poison did not help but his anger toward her and actions were his own.

    - His idotic reason of being jaleous and insecure is not an excuse nor even a good enough explanation and show his true colors. He only changed because she was terrified of him and then avoided him. If not he would have hated her for no actual reason at all. Second Ruve is not a good person. Tanted her that he would make her concubine instead of Emperess, screamed at her when she was eleven years old child while he was 16 because she served his favorite food and then, after she collapsed because of it, was going to do it again. He read personal letters and reveal the inside to a third party by complainig about it. Realize that he was mistaken but don't bother to even send a letter or apologize once after putting her into a comatose state, instead shunning her the same way he did in the first timeline thus Tia is the one who made al the efforts to amend their relationship (when she shouldn't even willing too since the last time they meet he was cleraly going the same path than the forst timeline). He swear that he will respect her choice but: forcefully kiss her without permission, refuse her vow when she clearly want to break up, force her to change her plans for her own coming of age party without asking if she was alright with that because he didn't care and it suited what HE wanted, lied about signing the papers about the end of their engament just because, use her to escape from Ji-eun... Seriously, do I really need to continue? I can right a full two pages of his actions that are absolute red flags. Cherry on top: he was going to execute Ji-eun the same way he did Tia in the first timeline, after using her and knowing she was innocent and helped them. He only was only taling about himself and complaing that she reject him when she was freaking died because of the poison. Misunterdood sweet boy? More like spoiled, arrogant and self entitled child-man.

    - When Tia told him about her past she barely said anything. She did not talk about the misscariage, nor the slap, nor the way he was violet with her when theu did it and not even the execution part. And after all that he did call it a "dream". Indeed he is fully aware that it must have happened since as predicted Ji-eun appeared. And it make the use of this word even worst coming from him. He is clearly not understanding what she have gone trought. He did not cry when she told his story either. Instead he throwed himself a self-pity party the same way he did when she was dying ("MY breath MY love You do you hate ME when she is dying at the same time mind you, show how he is self-centered) by explaining why he hated her so much.

You have a valid point, I’ve read various mangas but by far this has astonished my mind, I actually quit reading a couple months back. Haven’t read it since but I stumbled upon this in the completed section. I honestly thought Aristia would at least take Carsein or no one. But she ended up taking the one dude who murdered her, abused her, and sexually harassed her. Why go through all these chapters, just finding out she ends up with the same ending but ‘happier’. Although this manga perceives on the fact that everyone deserves a second chance, it’s not all rainbows and unicorns. I know this is fantasy, I know I’m elaborating. But it’s bothersome knowing she gets raped and chooses this ML despite dying for him once, and getting warned several times.
