She's the first person he met who showed him real human emotions (when she cried) and he became obsessed with her because of that. There is apparently incest between them later tho it is not the endgame

I feel bad for the ML, he doesn't deserve this. At this point even I would be like, you know what I am going to move on, MC can go on her own journey to get her mental state better and see what happens after.
At this point MC is neglecting ML. He is so careful at all times making sure she doesn't misunderstand anything, but it's not working.
