Usually translators comments are funny as hell I admit. They're silly, light hearted, or even sassy and funny. They don't pull me out of the story. However I've read some stories where the translators took it upon themselves to shame the readers and shit on the author and story and I have to wonder why they're bothering translating something if they're going to ruin the experience of reading it for everyone else. Off the top of my head I can think of at least two instances where this happened. Do you think there should be a limit to the comments or at least basic professionalism?
Yes exactly lol There's other ones ('Let's try S&M with me" I think the title was where the translator hated on every Domme woman but loved the Dom men). But what killed it for me with the sadistic beauty one was that the characterization in the original story didn't change when the author wrote it, but the translator shit on that and wrote her own ending and used the original as a platform to push her fanfic. Like what the actual f lol I'm a former fic writer (now just original) who thinks that's insane.
Author's love to put immoral or bad characters through redemption arcs, so it made me wonder. What redeems a character for you? Sometimes you want them to feel what they put someone through. Sometimes you want them to understand what they did and genuinely repent, it doesn't matter if they themselves go through the hardships they might have caused. Obviously this goes on a case by case basis, but man, sometimes they just torture the characters they're trying to redeem. For me, simply making me have sympathy isn't really redeeming a character. Giving them a bad past and ignoring the whole redemption (having the MC just forgive them) isn't preferable either though. Just a little musing on the subject.
Depends somehow
Sometimes I just couldn't accept a character redemption like
He kills your family, he kills your best friend, he destroys your kingdom, he chains you all because of the premise he loves you and then something happens and he regrets. TRULY REGRET IT. He feels remorse and everything and did everything he can to change himself.
I can sympathize and understand but I can never truly accept it.
Is there even one comic where there's a female Alpha that isn't complete shit in some way? Because I'm not impressed. Give a girl a dick and she turns into a stereotypical shitbag BL lead apparently. It's disappointing because there's plenty of badass female characters out there, but I'd like to see those characters as Alpha too.
One Night Only main was okay, but still has a weirdly cold alpha, and the past side story has absolutely trashed the story for me. I honestly can't remember the name of the one by the author who also wrote a BL but it was also shit and they made the omega lie about being asexual, threw a BL relationship bait and switch in too. Both characters were trash. Am I being too harsh? We deserve a decent Omegaverse with awesome female alphas lol
I love BL, love omegaverse, ect. I just dream about a female alpha that doesn't act 100% like a typical toxic BL protagonist.
