Anyone think Owen gave up on the child because he thought Nux would hate him/the child because of how he acted? (He did literally tell hanky Owen he'd hate him if he got pregnant) Owen is farrrr from innocent or correct in doing this, but that's my thought. He believed it was better to leave than be hated I think.
