As much as I want them to bromance, in the novel they pretty much stay as best friends. In addition, hero's sister-who didn't appear in the game- gets saved by MC in later arcs.
It's not that I hate her, hero sister has the ability that MC needs and is not some useless damsel in distress and becomes MC's assistant. MC didn't just fall in love quickly but after some time.
MC also gets engaged with her to protect her from Nobles who want to exploit the hero. And MC confesses his love to her not long after engagement, both MC and her have feelings for each other.
I mean, why can't bromance be bromance? I read bl and I didn't even see them as a good couple. It doesn't even feel like queer baiting. It's friendship =_= not a fan of people jumping to ships on the get go.

I think so too. To be honest tho... I don't solely blame us readers for all the shipping. We have a real lack of good same gender friendship in comics... it's usually mc, romantic interests, villains and mob/rival. So whenever we get some good friends accompanying mc and being friendly nice to them... we associate that friend with romantic interest... and they usually seem better than the actual romantic interest because they tend to be like... foil? to either show how desirable mc is or how strong they are by saving them all the time... If you add to that... that female romantic interests in special are not often well made... yeah... some of them are so hard to look at that I end dropping the comic... even tho plot and mc are cool... Kinda sad hero sister's is the female lead tho... I was shipping him with the one who was in the battle... from the neighboring territory...
