no that doesn't mean he deceived his past partner. one he didn't know he was in love with him and two most people assume you have had past loves when you go into a relationship. Its not like he cheated on the guy.
He didn't deceive anyone, I agree with alrkiitty. Also just because you harbour feelings for someone doesn't mean you can't have a meaningful relationship with someone else. He didn't think he would see him again and admitted to hiding those feelings even from himself. If he never saw him again does that mean he should be alone forever since he loved someone as a kid?
