In yaoi, I heavily dislike: "I'm straight but gay for you." Once in a while, it's an enjoyable and amusing read but the concept is used repeatedly. The seme only begins likes the uke because of his femininity the majority of the time. When he thinks about liking men with muscles, beards, hairy body parts, or masculine features then it's always "disgusting/impossible." An example of this is Okane Ga Nai. So if the uke didn't have the appearance of a woman, the seme wouldn't be interested? WRITE A JOSEI MANGA THEN.

A few certain concepts are re-used such as:

- Playboy seme/Innocent uke.
- R*pe.
- Internalized homophobia, that often goes unaddressed or changed.
- Female villains/b*tches. This fuels misogyny.
- Huge seme/Tiny uke.
- Cruel seme/Pushover uke.

I enjoy reading some of these concepts (except for 2, 3, 4, and 6), but it's getting old! I feel like I have read the same story ten times. Stories like sign, cherry blossoms after winter, and wolf in the house do so well because of the originality. The lack of sexualities explored in yaoi is sad and upsetting... it's GAY manga. It's rare for a seme to be gay, bi, or even pan!! Where's the representation?

only wrote this because I am frustrated. I love yaoi but I am close to not reading it anymore. I want to see extra, different, and better. Straight women are the majority of readers of yaoi but shouldn't the LGBTQ+ get better representation? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Yeah, I don't really like "I'm only gay for you" and "gay x straight" as a whole tbh. If you like someone of the same sex, you aint straight. I also don't like the whole chasing after someone until they like you thing. I've had people do that in rl and it's very uncomfortable since they were never anyone I was interested in. It can be very discouraging when you read things that have poor representation or that have some really awful stuff.

We're just debating among ourselves. It's unlikely authors will see anything and it gives it attention, anyway, so it's win-win for them pretty much. Please don't assume we don't pay 'cause you're salty. Thank you <3

Manga is not intended for Asians. Manga sells globally. If it were only meant for Asians then there wouldn't be 1) english translations and 2) availability to purchase in countries other than Asia. I do purchase manga: painter of the night, one-piece, attack on titan, and finder are some of the few. Not fair of you to say people who don't purchase manga can't have an opinion though... some just can't afford it. Your comment was pointless and rude.

Agreed!! If not gay then bi/etc. I don't know why authors don't explore sexuality, it would be an excellent read.

Some of them do. You just gotta look for them. I do believe there's a few groups that has manga with lgbt representation in it. If you go to list tags, you can search by terms like "lgbt" etc. I know there was one I read just recently where the main character was struggling with his identity most of the book 'cause it was a mutual love, but he was afraid to come out 'cause of what happened to another student who was gay.
