Because he doesn't want to hurt her anymore than he has to, even before he already accepted the fact that she was gonna marry someone else cuz he was a peasant (before he knew that the dad was gonna pair him up with his daughter). Now he's going to protect another girl for the rest of his life, thats why he looks so defeated while he was in the carriage.

Since the story is mainly from Makia's prospective we actually don't know if he fought or not. Plus he probably had no choice and is maybe secretly planning something too....for once he gets more power.
And I feel like he isn't gonna pledge his eternal loyalty to the savior....
Am I the only one who's disappointed in Thor because he didn't even fight for Makia or even go see her before leaving?????
I mean, why is Makia the only one making an effort for them to meet each other?
