There's a novel, and as I understood fron the reviews

>as for his ex, he breaks up with that guy bc he understands it's not love and it would be cruel to continue this relationship
I don't know if he has some important role in the story, probably not, he doesn't chase the mc or smth, at least it wasn't mentioned
