they probably didn't spend any time together before they got married & he was ordered to leave the day after their wedding. he's hot-headed by nature & he's been lusting after his wife for 3 whole years while SHE thinks he finds her annoying & that he'll divorce her. I think it's hilarious. (≧∀≦)
Um...OP, you seem to be misunderstanding Riftan, so I'll enlighten you: he's not a jerk, he's just a normal guy that has rough mannerisms. In particular, he has a blunt and sometimes clumsy way of expressing himself, but he's caring, kind, and considerate to Maxi. It's clear that he's deeply infatuated with her and that he wasn't actually forced to marry her as she imagines. Even if he actually was "forced" at first, I'm sure he felt differently once he actually met her. Furthermore, his feelings for her are definitely not mere lust, since he's obviously a person with clearly defined principles and thoughts.

It's currently a relationship based ENTIRELY on misunderstandings. so far the story is that they only spent o-n-e night together & that was only because the girl's dad forced him to marry her (who also didn't really want to get married) & the guy was going through their "marital duties" that officiates them as a couple-> since married couples (noblity in particular) that didn't have sex with the first few years or so of marriage would just divorce and find new partners. sex on the wedding night mostly just means THAT in an arranged marriage. It's absolutely comical that THE GUY gets all sentimental about what was basically a one night stand & developed feelings for her over the three years they were apart. it's a perspective you don't often see tapped into (same for a MC that stutters regularly) & his personality is just total bliss to me~ (▰˘◡˘▰)

@Teiress Agreed, it's actually a nice relationship, even with the misunderstandings, unlike other similar ones exhibited in similar plots. However, iirc, in the novel, it stated that Riftan knew of Maxi even before they were married and that he wasn't actually forced. Also, on the wedding night, he didn't just force himself on her. He asked for her consent and she agreed, albeit only because she feared that he would be displeased and consequently, forced to return her father's estate to face his wrath.
yes he asked for consent and she gave it, but her reaction both times is like "im scared / i don't want to." The first time is almost pitiable but i almost choked laughing on their 2nd "morning after" when she was like "omg it was amazing~!" in less outspoken terms. any other spoilers from the novels? like a hidden villain besides her shite relatives that might pop up or if anything develops in the mage's feelings toward her? when she thanked him he had one of those might-be-an-issue-later-on vibes. like he might become one of her admirers later on or something? something was up with his expression.
Unfortunately, only a few of the novel chapters had been translated at the time, so I don't know much else. In any case, that mage hasn't even been identified, so he could just be an insignificant Mage A. Anyhow, since you're so enthusiastic about this manhwa, let me know if you want spoilers from the manhwa raws since I plan on reading ahead! (●'◡'●)ﾉ
