J Is not androgynous. Her character is despeciable at times because she hates herself. She is slutty because she finds no worth in a body that doesn't fit HER. She is slutty because her father taught her, that was love. As a trans woman groomed as a child, this story hit to raw. This isn't like most mangas.
The story is told through context. Through the brilliantly constructed nuances
She fights with the idea of her transness and her fathers molestation juxtaposed. Her femininity that she plays with, she also feels dooms her. So she weaponized her looks and sexually appeal, getting what she wants, while feeling utterly lonely and unfulfilled
It's easy to write this off as a yaoi with a feminine male character, but it's not to me.
This is a darker transgender coming to womanhood story.
This story touched me in a way no other story touched me.
Its raw...gritty...real.
Honest in the confusion and torment, gender identity and learning it can bring.
We see her transistion from young gay androgynous guy to a cross dresser to a woman at the end, sitting next to her mom.
A woman and free from the trauma and shame that followed her. The trauma which stopped her from freeing herself. The lover who she loved but even then tried to kill herself.
Because she wasn't that young gay boy. She was a woman. She always was a woman. It's what pushed her to such drastic ways of self harm. It's why she tries to kill herself, even when the men she always loved brought her home.
This story...if you have a strong stomach is one of those most poignant trans stories I ever read .
This is a coming of age story of a trans woman chaser by the trauma of sexual assault/incest and ultimately free from it
Like any work of art, this story can take on multiple meanings, which I think is purposeful. Because we see the transition of J....it can be a presentation of a man binary person, a gay feminine male or a trans woman.
I think the end was kind blunted. The author could have elongated the end to give more meaning
But to me, her sitting in a dress is day time, not for work or play...tells me she accepted that she wanted womanhood
