I don't think he did it. He wouldn't gain anything from it.

I think he did. He seems a tad bit too over the top crazy, he might put all the blame on the empress later and speak up for Jeremy to look good in front of Shuli. Like taking away one son and then consoling her to get her affection.
Idk why the cardinal would do that, he also seemed surprised when he heard about it. To me he feels like a harmless weirdo that may or may not become a stalker but that’s it.
And the empress...I don’t really see any reason for her to do that? I mean it could be a plot with the prince but I dont think she’s involved in any other way. Even if she doesn’t like Shuli, she wouldn’t get anything out of hurting Jeremy. That takes another level of insanity and I think the prince has that ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

But why would he? The only thing I can see him gaining from this is getting some points with Shuri by helping her with this situation. And I don't think he can, otherwise he would have done it already. And I think that if he was going to console her in order to get closer to her he would already be doing that.

And Jeremy didn't even interact as much with the Prince and Shuri at the same time for him to suspect that Jeremy is a rival. Plus hurting her family would make Shuri hate the Prince, not like him. I mean, at best she would think that being around him would bring her misfortune and avoid him.

I think there are bigger powers at play here. There was some suspicion going around that the church was embezzling funds in order to build a private army. Plus Shuri mentioned that a civil war was on it's way, that she intervened in the Christmas budget situation to delay that. But the Cardinal didn't like that, right?

Also the Cardinal and the Crown Prince don't get along at all. And the stupid Prince keeps talking about how much he likes Shuri in front of him. He even told him about his plans to take Shuri to the royal library! This would be a good opportunity to make the Prince, who keeps using his status to subdue the Cardinal, realize his own powerlessness.

And isn't it weird that there was a priest conveniently placed to help Jeremy get to the library? Plus he even told Jeremy to rush so that he could "protect" Shuri. Which probably influenced Jeremy's judgement of what was happening. And if that area of the palace was completely empty, no guard in sight to help Jeremy while he was lost, how come they all got there so fast? And ready to arrest Jeremy to!

Plus I think the Cardinal was rather pleased with this situation. And he might be faking his surprise as well. That blong guy seemed to believe that the Church is good and that they are really committed to helping the commoners against the "evil" nobles. I also saw some people saying that the Cardinal is even more obsessed with Shuri than the Prince. Like "If I can't have her, no one else can" kind of obsessed.

The Queen doesn't like Shuri either. Because she looks like the King's first wife. So to me while the Cardinal is a more likely culprit, she could be the one as well.
