Well that's the thing because they have no remorse or fear of consequences psychopaths think they can do whatever they want, so if i was a psychopath I wouldn't look for a reason to justify my actions i will simply do as i please, what i think the author is doing is making him more empathetic so he could be accepted more by the audience as the lover of the main character.
