Korea vs japan

my-chan August 18, 2020 5:43 pm

Does anyone think that korean webtoons (yaoi) are slowly overtaking japanese mangas? The latest yaoi updates are often korean webtoons. Not only yaois but also shojos are from korea especially reincarnation webtoons.

Im kinda scared that korea will have much more influence than japan and that there will be less and less japanese mangas updated.

Not only in the manga industry but koreans influence and soft power is getting stronger and stronger (e.g. kpop kdramas food and technology)

Anyone think the same?

because it's colorful, and the panel makes it easier to read (not to mention the words in each panel are fewer) makes manhwa easier to like than manga for most people, especially busy people who tends to need easier and cleaner story.

I used to hate it. i prefer the way manga character goes (the development, culture, shyness on each chara, etc). I also used to make comment like yours back then on this page.

But actually it's quite understandable. nowadays, manga mostly are one volume (6 chapt) which makes it easier to forget. it's just like, reading, enjoying, forgeting, and redoin. Manhwas tend to have A LOT OF CHAPT. the influence of course will be bigger to the reader

It's not that i hate manhwa nowadays. I just really hope manga will be back to it's 'competitiveness' in the future

I know what you mean. Korean entertainment industry is growing quite a lot, and are really powerful nowadays.
and for the comics, I think people are more attracted to webtoons because of the art style, I guess it’s more pleasant for the view (colorful and bigger). As we can see most viewed and popular comics here are Webtoons. I also think cuz mostly webtoons have official English versions, so they get updated regularly, cuz most of the Japanese mangas here are scanlation works and sometimes they got dropped.
I think maybe webtoons will lead the international market for the BL comic books, but For the other genres they will not be able to take over Japanese mangas, as we know Japanese mangas and anime are the LEGENDS

I do think that in the regular world to people who aren’t interested in manga and anime it’s more attractive and I feel like people who are occasional readers are more likely to read webtoons I personally still prefer manga a lot more just because a lot of webtoons are either the student story or they’re basically porn

I also think the same webtoons are comrtable to read and has very gooood character description since mangas are same as usual in yaois especially full of porn or story with less goood plot they couldn't maintain the balance of gooood plot or sex scenes whereas webtooon maind both at balance as far my experience of 4 yrs i started with mangas but end up loving more webtooon most of webtoons don't disappoint us like mangas stories sometimes does

Thanks for all the replies everyone
    @Lilalilala:

I agree with everything you said. I didnt even think of the fact that webtoons get official eng translations which contributes to more webtoons getting uploaded. I also dont see webtoons overtaking other genres like shonen jump etc..

I mean years ago the most popular yaoi on mangago was mangas like viewfinder and nots its bj alex etc.

Time has really changed and korea is pushing hard to get more global recognition.
What is interesting is that japan never really cares about beeing popular aboard and think more about their domestic market.

Or maybe its cause everything is getting digitalized and analog mangas will die out eventually.

I personally prefer Korean webtoons too, just cuz they're so much easier to read on a phone. Though will still read Japanese mangas, but usually shorter.
