He was being petty and butthurt and he said he hated women, so the guy asked him why he hated women, then he was like "because I'm gay", as if that was enough of a justification for directing his anger/frastrations to the women currently in the room. It was intentional on the part of the author to show his angst which we later got the backstory to. It still doesn't make it right. In the exact same way, you can spot a toxic jerk real fast in real life, which is why it was good to set the scene for introducing the soon to be jerk who tries to get between them. Even if it's just some words, people are stupid so honestly someone in real life could do something like projecting their anger on something too, it's no surprise. In this case, it was a form of mysogyny so yh people are gonna be like "rlly dude"?? Basically similar reaction to any jerk in real life bc after all, the setting is in a world like this one even if it's relatively made up and doesn't follow common sense all the time. Certain parts stick. People hold discussions on books/stories to talk about what they thought of it after all. This is no different.
even if he had a 'valid' reason to hate the whole gender it still means he is ignorant so... maybe it's a mistranslation and i hope so bc this way of thinking is still dumb in my opinion. dumb people exist in real and fiction world least I can do is criticize them lol
