The MC in Dia no Ace has continuously been stuck in his rivals shadows (as in the fact that even though he grows immensely, he is never seen as superior to his rival), and the author doesn't seem to care about his character development as much. Throughout the manga, you see the MC as more of a 'pinch' pitcher, he is only used when his team needs points to throw the enemy off guard. That is a role given to a side character and the author of Dia no Ace doesn't seem to have any intention of making the MC a more recognizable and notable character. The plot has drifted so far from the MC in Dia no Ace, that you legit can't think of him as a main character anymore.

the story in book 1 is basically the MC story bout how noob he is in baseball. he only relied in his naturally moving pitch which mind u he didnt know about that at all untill the senpai point that out.. throught out book 1 he basically getting overshadowed skillwise by another same age pitcher who have natural fastball 150km/h pitch which at that time is rare for highschool student. the book 2 is where everything pick up for the MC cuz he gained TONS of skill. this is also the book where he gets the ace number since not only his pitch are getting dangerous its also his attitude as true ace is showing more and more within the team.. the anime has 3 season. season 1 is where the mc get the noob treatment, season 2 where he started to learn a pitch that become one of his weapon in the future, season 3 is when he finally get an Ace.. overall is a good sports manga.. i still think diamond no ace is a bit better than bungo while major is basically like captain tsubasa as a soccer manga.. the kinda of manga that the MC always on top nomatter what. Diamond no ace is more like haikyuu character wise but the way the writer wrote the story is way below haikyuu.. its really a shame.. the plot and the character is really good even the rival is amazing its just the writer who is a mess since he really showed how bias he is towards another character and always easily throw away character growth
