I get where u are coming from, however I think this was more about pride than beliefs. It’s because his pride got accidentally hurt that he acted in anger and was stuck in the same loop. It a very common reaction to prideful ppl, so I would say it’s a little of your thing and pride.
I can understand the ML's attitude towards the FL. It's common for people who are up there to look down on others who have less. They may act friendly in public, but in private, they will not agree to bring anyone of lesser status into the family.
