well i kinda know where the hate towards ryu is coming from but tbh, i'm really satisfied on the 3 years separation they have.
1st and foremost it's because it made Asuka realize how much she love her job and nade her grow more independently and i love her for that.
second ot's not that ryu is prolonging his marital issue for 3 years but rather he is waiting for Asuka as well. they both grow as a person in these separation and ryu is also not a perfect man we see in some anime. he is a flesh character that has some flows and i know a lot of men who are not bad doesn't want marriage but in the end settle down after finding the right women for them :)
