How I got back to reading Hetero romance.

My memory of childhood has always been anime from TV, and when he got a computer I got to watch more anime there. Most of them are magical romance, etc. I remember I used to watch mermaid melody, Earl and fairy, Yamato Nadeshiko, Jewel pet, etc. (I was under 10)
When I turned 13(junior high), my shows grew to more non-child appropriate shows but still ok such as One piece, law of Ueki, Full metal Alchemist, etc.

Peak of junior high, my sister's friend recommended her a shounen-ai manga. (Shounen-ai is a light romance between guys) at this time, I was already reading manga since I found out that anime is so limited compared to manga. My sister made me read it instead of her since she's not into that, I wasn't complaining but I wasn't into that (at that time) either That's when I got introduced to YAOI. (It always starts light)

My life changed!!

My stories progressed to YAOI (Boys love, most of the time has sex scenes) and it didn't even lasted long when my sister found out about it since I stole her iPod to read them (I was so dumb).

[She got so mad that I was reading YAOI, when she was to blame for making me read them. So she never mentioned it again.]

But I never stopped, and continued reading them and watching them until high school. I strayed from hetero romance, to the point of hating it. I couldn't handle them.
During high school, I was only reading YAOI stories however I was obsessed with sports animes that has zero romance, and it's just a bunch of male characters. Such as, prince of tennis, kuroko no basket, eye shield 21, Free!, Hikaru no Go, etc.

At University, I still was into YAOI. But I encountered Harley Quinn mangas.

Purely coincidental!

But they never bothered me, since they were not dark, not too dramatic, and always a happy ending. That's #1 reason I couldn't go back to straight romance was the struggle the FL will go through to get the ML , and vise versa. Though I prefer to make the ML struggle.

After university, as a working adult. I slowly don't watch anime as much, to the point of never. I read manga more. I still don't read alot of straight romance... but they're more purposeful??
I read romance where the FL takes revenge, or has strong character to manipulate the guy/s. Such as, cheating men must die, (villainess plots), revenge plots, etc.

So I thank thee Harley Quinn for making me comfortable to read straight stories again.
