No no. Sorry if I have used some offensive words, but I didn't mean to offend you. What I wanted to say is, try putting yourself in Adele's situation. If you read this story from the very start, I think you will understand Adele's feeling of wanting some assurance from the Duke who doesn't know how to express and say his real feelings without any push. Again, I apologize if I became rude from my previous comment.
He didn't catch the hint about the grand proposal at first, she even comments on it. She only rejected him when he went to her because it's absolutely necessary that a grand proposal is done. The idea was that he was supposed to get home, find out she's gone and panic, then chase after her with a grand proposal set up, but he's dense and just panicked and chased her.
This is too much for the duke, knowing the fact that he does not have any experience with woman, and here he is trying everythinf his got just to please the woman he likes going round and round....and what he got in the end another game of chase.
